   A super Japanese restaurant in the heart of portobello rd. Super attention to detail from the staff and especially the friendly greeting from the Bar

   At first all was ok. We had guests with us. The back door was constantly opened so big draught was created. Both us and table next to us kept complaining but ignored. Ended up giving to back to see what was happening and was confronted with Waitress asking me what was "wrong with me" for complaining. Asked for manage twicer, who didn't turn up for 15 minutes. He gave his name as Alex and instead of dealing with issue, told me off for going to back to sort the problem that should have been sorted by the staff in the first place. Very rude and dismissed my wife by waving his palm at her and turning his back to her. Shame on an establishment who treats women like we're still in the 1950's.

   Everything feels tired and uninspired - the selection of sushi is reminiscent of chain of supermarket sushi - more of a cocktail bar than a restaurant

   I am writing to express my disappointment with the service my guest and I received during our visit to Ukai on 16/10/24. From the moment I engaged the waiter, his demeanour was abrupt, unpleasant, and he conducted himself with an authoritative manner that made both my guest and I uncomfortable. This was particularly unfortunate as it was her first experience at Ukai, a place I have always recommended highly to others. Over the years, I have introduced many people to your establishment, always expecting and receiving a high standard of service. However, this recent visit fell far short of what I know Ukai to represent. Looking back, I realize that I could have handled the situation differently in the moment, but I did not expect such a disappointing encounter from an establishment that prides itself on excellence. I trust that this is an isolated incident, but I wanted to bring it to your attention as this is not the standard of service I associate with Ukai. I would appreciate any feedback on how this can be addressed moving forward, and I hope for a more positive experience on future visits.

   Had no prior expectations of this restaurant but we all really enjoyed the meal. The restaurant was quiet - it was a very wet Tuesday lunchtime. The service was really excellent, the food arrived promptly and the portion size was perfect. Highly recommended, thank you!

   Really enjoyed my experience at Ukai the food was very very good and presented exceptionally the staff were polite and attentive and the atmosphere there was relaxed, comfortable and I’d like to go back there again

    Grilled seabass was nicely done, we had the ukai deluxe platter, the sashimi was very fresh. Great service. Sunday afternoon we enjoyed the live music 😍
