The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

Lex / Alexander was a wonderful host. He listened and was attentive. The food was good and well done. My only complaint was that I wish the menu was deeper. This is a tourist place, but it was worth it.

Waitress was so delightful. She was kind and very funny. Went here for my birthday she made it very special. All employees were so nice and helpful. There were christmas fairys granting wishes and spreading fairy dust. It was so cute and beautiful. The photographer was kind enough to give me an extra picture as a birthday gift. The interior is so beautiful and very classy. The decorations were so beautiful. It was a bit crowded by the great tree. The food was also phenomenal. The ravioli was divine, as well as the burger. The christmas cookies were so delicious. The starters were also great. We ordered the charcuterie board and everything was yummy on there. I rate this a 10/10 experience and a must see.

We’ve been coming here for a holiday dinner in between Thanksgiving and Christmas for several years. The chicken pot pie is outstanding! The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The service is always great, but this year, Lex was a particularly outstanding server - one of the best we’ve had at any restaurant (ever).

I was seated a couple of minutes early and was greeted by my server. Almost immediately a fairy princess arrived at my table and entertained my granddaughter. Next , our orders were taken and subsequently our food was delivered. The menu hadn’t changed much;this is our 4th year, however everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was a little slow, but I chalked that up to the sheer number of guests being served! See you next year!

The chicken pot pie was as I remembered it - tasty and hot- although the salad on the plate was sadly wilted. The short ribs were very tender with good flavor, but served lukewarm. The grain bowl my daughter had was not good, not flavorful or filling. I’m afraid the best things our crew had were the drinks. It was disappointing, but the wait staff were remarkably polite and doing their best on a busy day. We did have a lovely quiet table in the back with a great view!

We ordered two kids meals but received no cookies and no holiday mugs, which are supposed to be included from the menu. The mugs are "while supplies last," but we were not told they were out or anything, and it was December 1st.
