The Pelican Club is a contemporary New Orleans restaurant located on historic Exchange Place in the French Quarter. The entrance is via the Bar which overlooks Exchange Place through a wall of arched, wood-mullioned windows and leads into three dining rooms featuring original artworks by contemporary Louisiana artists.

Since opening the doors in 1990, chef and owner, Richard Hughes has offered a diverse menu based in south Louisiana tradition with French, Italian, and Asian influences reflecting the rich culinary culture of the city. Enjoy fresh seasonal specialties including Baked Oysters, Clay Pot “Barbequed” Shrimp, Seafood Martini, Crispy Whole Flounder, Trio of Duck, Prime Filet Mignon and Louisiana Cioppino in its own pot.

The Pelican Club features an extensive wine list highlighting the the regions of California, Italy and France.

Host groups from 20 to 200 for events ranging from cocktail parties and seated dinners to receptions.

    The manager is the real problem. She is pretentious, rude and has zero people skills. She insists on asserting her power as a manager and making it seem like she’s important. The Pelican Club needs to fire her and hire someone who is personable. Talking to the staff they feel the same way about this female manager. It’s apparent she is constantly an issue. It’s also not the first time I’ve dealt with the manager either and she was extremely rude before. She wouldn’t let us sit at a particular table. Even though it’s wide open and crowded. She then says we have to wait ten minutes in the bar for the table to be ready, which it already. She’s on a power trip and needs to find a different profession.

    The Pelican Club is one of our favorite spots in the Quarter. They have the best bread in the city. The wine selection is pretty good. Rocco was our waiter, and he was both helpful and accommodating. The focaccia was marvelous. We had the scallops and escargot for appetizers. They were both really good. For entrees, she had the Crispy Whole Fish, and I had the drum. They were both cooked perfectly, and were delicious. We ordered some focaccia to go. An overall wonderful meal.

    Too noisy in middle room… no carpet, no drapery for sound absorption. Escargot and braised beef shanks were amazing.

    I never leave a comment for a review but feel the restaurant and patrons should know that the hostess on Friday, 4/11/25 was perhaps the rudest restaurant encounter we’ve ever had, dining all over the world. The food was very good, waiter was great, but this hostess needs to leave the service industry before she destroys a very good restaurant.
