My best and I came to the Plaza hotel to enjoy a bit of fancy nostalgia since we both grew up watching Home Alone (1&2) and wanted to experience the famous Plaza Hotel. Since we were not staying at the actual Plaza hotel we decided to dine there one night after shopping at our favorite (Tiffany’s and Louis Vuitton, both which were walking distance so it was perfect). We arrived at our reservation time and was promptly greeted by the hostess and sat at our table. The ambiance was amazing. Beautiful decor, beautiful scenery, and an absolutely stunning ceiling that would reflect off the mirrored table. It was beautiful! After sitting at our table for quite some time (probably every bit of 5-10 mins) we were finally greeted by our waitress and our drink/food ordered was placed and those items came out pretty quickly. The food was great. I got a Cobb salad and French onion soup with a glass a wine and my friend ordered the club sandwich with fries and also a glass a wine. Very delicious! It was quite pricey however that was to be expected coming to the Plaza hotel. The main issue was the lack of attention given by our waitress. She was nice (the three times she came to our table, once for our order, the second to drop off our order, the third to bring the second round of wine) however we sat there for quite some time after we finished our meals before I finally decided to get up and ask the hostess for our check. The hostess promptly got out check, our payment, and a third person brought our payment back to the table. Not once did our waitress even come back to our table. For the most part it was a great time just disappointed in the lack of attention from our waitress. It wasn’t busy at this particular time however none of the tables in our section were ever cleaned off from previous guests the whole time were there and those that were also dining close to us had to also ask the hostess for their checks as well. Maybe the waitress had something going on that night.

Incredibly well prepared food. Very attentive, caring waitors. Grand architecture and features. Like a palace.

If I am honest It was a really mixed experience. I was greeted at the door and sat by the hosts who were lovely and welcoming, the waiter explained everything to me and I was so excited the place looked beautiful and it’s the plaza so iconic. I was a party of one so I was expecting to be given something perhaps to read this wasn’t offered. Before my afternoon tea arrived I noticed my plate was dirty (had some stuck on egg yoke) it was set like this, I mentioned this to the waiter and it was changed. When the afternoon tea arrived it looked spectacular except when I started with the savoury section the quality of the bread on the sandwiches were very bad, some stale and inedible and the scones were not served warm and also were on the stale side. I get it maybe scones are served differently to what I am used to in Ireland and uk. One more thing is that usually you can ask for different teas throughout but this is not offered. Only one type of tea per person. The best part of the tea was the fois grais macaroon it was to die for so kudos to the chef who made that and also the small cake selections were beautiful. I mentioned to the waiter about the sandwiches having hard bread and he just said “I know”. Nothing was done about this and I don’t think this is good enough at all especially with the $196.66 price tag, with gratuity included.

Unfortunately the afternoon tea was disappointing in comparison to the many other luxury hotels where I have enjoyed this service. Specifically the bread on the sandwiches was stale, the tea was brewed before coming to the table and weak, one teapot had to be shared for the whole table, there were no tongs to remove any of the food from the plates, sugar packets were on the table instead of sugar cubes, the pink lemonade was bitter, and the server poured unwanted milk into one of the cups of tea without a request for it. For the overall experience, the price of $604 for 2 adults and a child was thought to be excessive and far below our expectations. I would appreciate a response in a timely manner.
