Located within Denver’s historic Tramway Building, originally opened in 1911, The Nickel pays homage to the space that was once used to collect fare from customers riding its resident streetcars: a nickel. Just as the building in which The Nickel is housed has a storied past, the dishes found on the menu at The Nickel all have a story. We proudly serve menus that incorporate the highest quality ingredients from farmers, ranchers, distillers and craft producers, and is comprised of dishes that are easily recognizable and feel simple, but eat complex.

It was fine, except when we arrived, they said I did not have a reservation which I clearly made with Open Table.

Food good. Cocktail disappointing. Service not proactive: empty water glass left unfilled; removed silverware replaced only at the last minute.

The chicken (leg and thigh) was dried out, over cooked. The cheesy polenta was too salty and bland. The brussel sprouts were dry and undercooked, no bacon fat. Overall pretty disappointing.

Took a full 7 minutes before a waitperson arrived to ask if we would like a drink. They are used to pre-theater diners, and the seating was more than half empty. When the server arrived and said we were ere wondering when someone would show up, she said oh, yeah. Didn’t acknowledge and didn’t apologize. I had salmon on risotto with peas. The flavor was good but the presentation was very plain. On a big white plate. Yawn. My friend’s salad looked fine, and she said her salmon addition was good. I didn’t appreciate being seated at a large oval table for 4, just inside the door. Cozier tables for 2 were open. When I asked to sit farther away from the door, the hostess said “yeah, ok”. She wasn’t overly concerned. What could have been a lovely experience was diminished by inattentive, non-communicative staff and rather plain presentation.

Enjoyed a nice meal with the family here. Service was great and the food is always high quality. Just fyi there is no kids menu, even though it is listed on the open table site. Also, it was a bit loud because on Friday nights they have live music. However, it was a good guitarist so not too overwhelming. We will be back sometime, as it is close to the DCPA and quick turnaround if you need to get to a show.

Hi Julia, Thanks for the feedback, it's so good to hear that you enjoy our menu! We recently brought on a new chef and he has been adding some amazing items. Friday's are definitely more of a lively evening because of our live music but other week nights tend to be a little bit more mellow so I'd love to invite you back on one of those nights! Lastly, thank you for letting me know about your experience with the kids menu. I think it's a great idea to have something on paper that we can give to kids that dine here. Looking forward to your next visit! Best, Taylor

Service was very attentive. My salmon was cooked perfectly and my husband's pork chop was very good. The menu is a little limited in choices, but what we chose to eat was quite good.

Thank you for the feedback Joyce! On November 13th, we are launching a new menu with our new executive chef. I think you'll appreciate the changes we are making as it will have a few more options to chose from!
