The Captain Digby, a family friendly restaurant and bar which caters for all ages & occasions, with sea views overlooking Kingsgate Bay. We serve generously portioned fresh, home cooked food from our bar, restaurant & children's menu. Food is served from 12 noon each day, all day until late check our operating hours before arrival.
Choose from our family dining area, close to our indoor play area or our cliff top restaurant with sea views.
Alfresco dining is available with 40 benches overlooking the bay but these are non-reservable and work on a first come first served basis. Please note we can not guarantee window tables. We do not allow dogs inside our venue but they are welcome in our outside dining areas. Being so close to the shoreline we tend to have issues regarding internet connections and advise all customers also bring cash as an alternative payment.

We had the beef for Sunday roast. Very generous portions and piping hot. The Yorkshire puddings were excellent - really tasted like proper home made rather than the frozen ones you often get in restaurants. The roast potatoes weren’t the best - could have done with longer in the oven to make them really crispy but great choice of veg - carrots, red cabbage and cauliflower cheese. Wonderful desserts: we had the lemon posset with raspberry coulis and shortbread and the chocolate brownie with ice cream. Again very generous portions. The service was good considering how busy the restaurant was. We were initially seated next to a large party with some very boisterous children so asked if there was a quieter table available. The staff were accommodating and we were moved to the opposite end of the restaurant where there were just 3 tables together. Unfortunately one table was occupied by a lady with a very loud speaking voice and the other had a family of three who were singing parts of songs to each other. Thankfully once all the food was served up the noise level decreased significantly. For this reason I could give only 3 stars for ambience. Overall I would recommend the Captain Digby but not if you want a quiet meal on a Sunday lunchtime.

Some of the food was definitely reheated. I had pork t-bone for my main course which was overcooked and dry, the mash tasted reheated and really stodgy. Some parts of the sharing starter were reheated and others fresh. 90 pound bill for wetherspoons food.
