Situated on the iconic Chicago River with stunning views of downtown, River Roast is a lively social house and gathering place. The menu features contemporary American tavern fare with dramatic presentations of whole roasted chicken, whole roasted fish and slow roasted beef; all carved table-side. The food is handcrafted, yet rustic, with many plates designed for sharing. The bar offers a large selection of local beer, craft cocktails, beer, and wine. With one of the best patios in Chicago, River Roast is a great place to enjoy dining outside on a hot summer afternoon or a crisp fall evening. River Roast Private Events offers six spaces, all with spectacular views, for parties from 10 to 1,000. Saturday and Sunday features our Brunch menu from 11:00AM-3PM. We are open Mon-Fri for lunch and daily for dinner.

I am not at all a picky eater, but this meal was not just good. My sister and I went out after a long day working a trade show and we were looking forward to a decent dinner. They were out of their main feature, the pork roast so she order the slow roasted beef. It was tough and full of gristle. It was undercooked and had to be sent back to continue to cook. She ordered a side of potatoes to pair with the meat ($12 extra) that were chunks of deep fried potatoes. It was called River Roast potatoes which are not described so you have no idea that you are getting very unhealthy potatoes. My salad was drenched in dressing. Not great. The waiter could see that we were not into our meal at all and so he brought us a slice of carrot cake to share, and it too was just aweful! So dry and tasteless. There was more icing than cake. I have never written a review before but really did feel compelled to write one today - it was just that bad.

The food was delish, as always! Service was not great this visit. We had a teen with a birthday and there was no acknowledgment of his birthday, which was a big bummer.

I went here for my anniversary and I loved the food!! The service was very great and I enjoyed my time here. Will definitely come again during next summer to experience the patio!!

Always a fantastic experience. The team here gets hospitality and treats returning guests like family. Chef delivers creative dishes. I loved his new ahi tartare starter along with the arugula salad incorporating vanilla bean in the dressing. It was so tasty. I highly recommend the roast chicken carved table side. It’s always a special dinner plus we celebrated our daughters birthday and they put candles in the desserts. Multiple wishes for her. I highly recommend. In the summer the patio on the river is amazing.

Staffs are kind in general Quiet atmosphere. suitable for family / lovers The schnitzel tastes similar to the one I enjoyed in Berlin. ( a bit thick though).

The ambiance is really good and you have a great view. It took about 15 minutes for our server to come to our table. I had to ask the host if we have a server. The food was just okay.

Booked for Thanksgiving this year. The food and ambiance was great, however the restaurant over booked for Thanksgiving and even with a reservation there was a long wait. The host at the front was overwhelmed. The actual service once I was sat was great, the food selection was wonderful.
