Located in San Diego’s vibrant downtown, Zama brings Latin American cuisine with an Asian infusion in a captivating space inspired by the Amazonian jungle. Zama will focus on Latin American cuisine with the addition of Peruvian and Mexican dishes like Carpaccio, Agua Chile and Tartar and a Japanese-inspired sushi bar created by Chef Tayuka Kudo (formerly of Nobu and Lumi) against the extravagant backdrop of the lush jungle-inspired space.

The experience can be fun with decor and the vibe. The food was hit and miss. Lacking in flavor on a lot of items we had. Braised short ribs was the best thing we ate. Also super salad. Drinks were fun and tasty. Service had a lot to be desired. Went on a Saturday night. Was busy but not overly crowded. Very pricey for food quality and service was not worth the extra service fee they add I assume to pay higher wages, Or health care 4.5%. Is a lot so I hope some goes to the server, but who knows it’s not explained. Lack of service. Entitlement to a tip it seems.

We came back here because the fish was so fresh. We live in Denver, but made a note when we ate here last time.

Food was delicious! I got the yellowtail nigiri and cauliflower entree. Went on a Saturday night at 10pm so there was a DJ club vibe.

We came here to celebrate my wife birthday. After seeing several social media videos it convinced us to come. Our group was disappointed because none of the cool drinks we saw on social media that look very good were not available. We also came for the entertainment which didn’t happen. So it was ok. The drinks were good the food was neutral. My bill was almost $700 dollars and to me not worth the money

The Zama restaurant is conveniently located in the Gas Lamp District. The staff are nice and provided great service. The food was good, but I believe for a restaurant that serves sushi, the rolls should be brought out one after another. Instead, the server brought all three rolls out at the same time which made it challenging to eat given the small table. I think I would return to Zama for drinks, but I’d much rather go to an authentic sushi restaurant for sushi.

What a beautiful find. We had planned on going to one of our favorite spots, but due to a private party, they were closed. So we decided to try Zama. They did not disappoint! The atmosphere was beautiful and inviting, the background music perfect, the food was delicious. It was an all around wonderful experience for our date night! We will definitely be back.

This was our first time having dinner at Zama and we loved everything about it! The drinks were delicious and so pretty, mine had a gorgeous orchid adorning it and was so yummy- the No Way Rosé. We ordered nigiri that melted on our mouths and loved the yellowtail ceviche, too. Both rolls we ordered were amazing and our servers were phenomenal! Such a beautiful space and felt so festive! We will definitely return soon!

Unfortunately, Food was not that good and drinks were mediocre. It was upsetting especially for the price. Wouldn’t recommend.
