Decent Experience, But Not Worth the Price Our dinner at Wye Oak Tavern was good overall, but not quite worth the cost. The food was enjoyable, though the mashed potatoes were overly heavy on the butter, making them unbalanced. One odd detail was that the sommelier poured our sparkling wine into standard wine glasses instead of providing proper flutes or coupes, which felt like a misstep for a place at this price point. The biggest downside of the evening was the noise level. Even at a small table, my wife and I had to lean in and constantly repeat ourselves just to have a conversation. It was difficult to enjoy the meal with that level of background noise. Overall, while the experience was decent, we expected more given the price and the Voltaggio’s involvement.

I was incredibly excited to try this restaurant given the historic Visitation academy and its space within the former chapel. The architecture and design is beautiful, true to the original structure and tastefully modern. But it is quite loud inside and the choice of music was a bit odd - everything from current hits to 70s classics. The two-top tables we got was quite small given their recommendation for at least two appetizers, so fitting everything on the table without knocking anything down is a challenge. The Coddies starter dish was okay - the ode to fish sticks could use re-working as it didn’t make sense to eat it as a popsicle and needed salt. The Romaine Baby salad was good. Our favorites were the ribeye steak and rockfish dish! We got sweet potatoes and broccoli as our sides and loved them! The spinach side was underwhelming. I was excited for the Apple dumplings dessert but I think they could use some lessons from the bakers at the Frederick Fair for their dumplings because the crust just felt flat after being poured over with caramel and lacked any airiness and tasted most of caramel and almost no apple. Would try again and order different items but it was not the knock out I’d hoped it’d be.

We had a meal to write home about. The crab cake was tender, fresh, and the shisito peppers provided a tiny but welcome kick. My salmon was cooked to perfection: the flesh having just become solid. It was delicious. My wife's pork tenderloin was perfectly prepared: the meat moist and tender. The brussel sprout side was outstanding, a close second to Jose Andres. The one disappointment was the chocolate dessert, the slice of Wye Oak. It looked better than it tasted; there needed to be more chocolate flavor. The "rings" of chocolate were too bland. Overall, a wonderful meal in a gorgeous surround. The service is getting used to the place, but is attentive.

Excellent service, food, drinks…beautiful building…worth the drive from Bethesda…also fantastic value when compared to DC prices…I will go back. Josh at the bar, where we had dinner, was knowledgable and enhanced the overall experience.

Stellar service and a beautiful space. Probably the best service I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Food was also amazing. Delicious cocktails too. Will definitely be back.

First time at this restaurant heard great reviews about the food and the atmosphere. It was my wife’s birthday, I did appreciate that the hostess knew that my wife’s birthday was on this day. The place didn’t disappoint the drinks and food were great! I would recommend this restaurant!

We had the salmon and the swordfish. I have never had such tender fish steaks before. My son said it was too tender (is that even a thing?) It was so soft he had to scoop it onto his fork. Same with my tuna. They both tasted amazing and we were very pleased. We all shared the fluke appetizer which was wonderful and unique. I’m sure our server wasn’t too happy that we were a table of non drinkers. We did have iced tea which sat empty much of the meal. 1 because the glasses are so small they were emptied with 3 sips. And 2, because our server had a very large table sat which took up much of his time. We were there for my birthday and ordered 2 of the lemon coconut desserts. They were so original and so WONDERFUL! The Maître d's are there to oversee the tables but they play that game of expertisely avoiding eye contact unless they decide to look at you. I tried at least 5 times to get one of their attention to ask a question and/or to at least fill our drinks. Over all I don’t think my family hates me for making them come to Wye Oak Tavern for my birthday. It was nice but I didn't feel special. Oh well, next time I won’t drive an hour to eat dinner but I am still glad we went. I do hope that at some point they’re able to offer a gluten free pasta to open up the options for celiac customers. About the alter bar controversy, I think it the most original concept. I mean it makes sense! That’s where the priests would offer the blood wine. That’s funny to turn it into a bar. Love it plus it’s GORGEOUS! Also, we were seated right below the bar and the noise level was totally fine. We had zero issues hearing each other.
