Always a great meal. We did the chef’s selection with the win pairing. Great value with incredible flavours and selections.

I was able to reserve a spot for two at the bar. The service was friendly but my conversation with my date was interrupted frequently. The bar was a very active space in front of us, loud clashing of glasses, unloading and loading glasses in the dishwasher rack directly in front of me. We were hurried to order and after an hour and a half we were hurried out because they had the restaurant booked for a private function. The waiter apologized that she could not offer desert and that we needed to leave in 15 minutes. I wanted to pay discreetly so I took the bill to the other end of the bar and paid, my waiter noted and I told her they I was being discreet. When sat down again just preparing to leave, the bartender asked if we were ready to pay and if we wanted separate bills. So much for being discreet! The food was great, especially the beet salad and the long cod the waiter suggested two plates each but three was almost too much. Unfortunately, I won’t go back there. It’s nice but being hurried like that is a deal breaker.

We had been wanting to check out Wind Cries Mary for sometime. So disappointed and shocked, actually. The noise level in this restaurant should deter anybody from eating there. We had an early reservation and by 7 pm we could not hear each other speak. The tables are very close and the noise has nowhere to go. As we had not seen our friends for some time, it was frustrating to try to have a catch-up conversation and we ended up eating in silence halfway through our meal. Our ears were ringing hours after getting home. The food was very uneven. The burrata starter was balanced and a good quality burrata was used. The gnudi was also good and mushrooms in it well prepared but not exceptional. The endive starter was sour and bitter. Endive is pleasantly bitter naturally but as such it needs to be balanced out with a vinaigrette that has a touch of sweet (honey, maple syrup?). The vinaigrette here was just vinegary. Harsh. The walnuts in the salad added to the problem - also bitter. Pecans or hazelnuts, pre-roasted and seasoned might have been a better choice. Very one note dish and not a good one. The fried chicken was the worst. So overly brined that all we could taste was salt and as a result the texture was rubber. The roast duck was tasteless and the accompanying lentils were mushy. While the dishes were nicely presented, the taste has to match it. Finally the mini-tongs are cheap. If WCM wants a cute table utensil, they should be a better quality. Picking up walnuts or lentils off a dish with tongs doesn't work. A lovely set of serving spoons with each dish would be so much better. This kitchen is on autopilot it seems and why they have a full house is beyond me. The servers should get hazardous pay for having to work in that incredibly noisy environment. Has anyone checked the decibel level? One of our party was celebrating her birthday and we intended to have a sweet but fled from the din of the place as soon as we could. The server was attentive.

Walking down the outside stairs to the entrance and opening the door to the cosiest cellar ever is our favorite part of this restaurant. The amazing food service is just icing on the cake!! December is Christmas party season so we ended up with bar seats which I think we enjoyed even more than a table as we got to sit side by side for a romantic date night.

Food and wine pairings were excellent. Music was a little too loud and other diners were loud/distracting
