Opening in 1991, the Wairau River Cellar Door and Restaurant is one of Marlborough's original wine tourism destinations. Today the Cellar Door and Restaurant is managed and run by eldest daughter Pip Rose.

Younger sister Caroline Rose and her partner Tane Malcolm are the head chefs, preparing a simple and delicious menu focusing on fresh, Marlborough ingredients that changes with the seasons. The Restaurant is a casual environment, a reflection of how the Rose family entertains at home.

The Cellar Door is the perfect place to sample the latest Wairau River wines and learn more about Marlborough and its grape growing history. At this time tastings are by appointment only.

A very special wine made in tiny amounts, it is a seductive peach colour with subtle notes of nectarine blossom, pink grapefruit and wet stone. The palate is elegant and complex, with textural elements supporting the fine mineral acidity, resulting in a dry finish with incredible length and persistence. Please ask your wait staff for a taste

Beautiful meal I had the pate which was to die for. My friend had mussel chowder that was nice. Then the salmon that was great. Then a desert coffee which was well worth the money. The overall experience was well worth the visit and I would recommend this winery.

This is our fourth visit to Wairau River Restaurant and always very enjoyable, service is professional but caring, food always interesting and extremely good and atmosphere always busy and fun.

Lovely salmon however some of our party didnt eat seafood and 3 of the 6 dishes were seafood no red meat option no beef or lamb which was a shame.

Beautiful setting and surroundings. Very relaxing. The food was excellent. We can highly recommend the prawns and the cheese soufflé.
