   I and my group went to Village Whiskey for the first time yesterday during restaurant week. The dining room had several empty tables. We found the food to be mediocre at best. Cher Garrces other restaurants usually offer high quality food and preparation. The eggplant toast appetizer was quite good with a brightness that was appreciation. Likewise the sausage and cleared honey on the meat and cheese plate were exceptional. On the other hand the homemade tater tots were dimunitive and flavorlesss. The VW Mac burger was unimpressive being compsed of two thin beef patties (smashed burgers) on a soft bun that were overwhelmed with the thick pickle slices that were on the sandwich. The smoked thousand island sauce was too subtle when paired with the rest of the burger compoents to be flavorful. Finally the pecan pie a la mode dessert was too sweet with maple syrup taking center stage in the dish as opposed to its traditional role of enhancing the dessert. All in all, we were disappointed with the meal, but in fairness Philly is experiencing a new boom in restaurant faire with creative chef's exhibiting their visions in ever interesting and creative ways. Given my admiration for Chef Garces, I will return in the spring when the pressures of Restaurant Week are over to see if the food has evolved to the level that we expect from Chef Garces.

   This is our go to place when visiting Philly.. food is delicious and accommodating for GF allergy. Julia was an excellent waitress!!!

   While service was good, our booth seat was ripped and old. Fries were overcooked and the Branzio fish was in a greasy pool of bacon fat. Cocktails were good as were burgers, but having not been here for 10 years I wanted to try it again and sadly won’t likely come back for the food as Philly has so much better to offer.

   It has been years since we had a meal at Village Whiskey PHL. Tonight was as good as we remembered. We ate in the bar area even though we had a reservation in the dining room. A great vibe and our server was attentive and the meal was more casual. It was nice sitting in a bar and not having one or more flat screens staring at us. I do appreciate a good sports bar but this was a nice change of pace. Look forward to our next visit.
