Vernick Fish presents Philadelphia’s own, Chef Greg Vernick’s exploration beyond the boundaries of a seafood restaurant. His ingredient-driven cooking style, paired with a love for global flavors, results in an inventive menu of fish and shellfish dishes, and a range of vegetable preparations. Taking a detailed, seasonal, and sustainable approach with small and large plate offerings, the kitchen brings new life to the favorite hallmarks of American oyster bar fare and raw bar. Complementing the experience are well-crafted cocktails, and a focused wine list of seafood-friendly white and sparkling offerings, as well as light, fresh reds.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Greg Vernick and CDC David Paterniti

From the OpenTable editors: Sleek interiors meet thoughtful service at this celebratory Logan Square seafood spot. James Beard Award-winning chef Greg Vernick walks the line between innovative and nostalgic with dishes like sardines on sourdough toast and grilled scallops that are masterclasses in careful sourcing and precise preparation, but also wipe-your-plate-clean delicious. If you’re toasting to something special, get one of the hard-to-find spirits or wines from the top-notch drinks program.

Our black bass was overcooked and so charred on top it ruined our palates. The lemongrass sauce it came with was not balanced either. Octopus and kimchi rice dishes were tasty. Appreciated the gluten free bread as well. Fabulous ambiance and solid service that we remembered from visits long ago remained. Would consider returning but the food seems to have taken a back seat now.

The food was absolutely delicious, but definitely overpriced for what you receive. Also, our waiter was very attentive at the start, but then seemed frustrated that we weren’t ordering tons of drinks and passed on dessert. It is a beautiful restaurant with very good food, however, there are many other better choices in Philadelphia.

$46 "Large Plate" consisted of three small scallops. This felt like a major ripoff. Raw fish was outstanding. Service was unsmiling and perfunctory.

Vernick was downright delightful. . Our service was wonderful, food was divine, ambiance was great. We sat at the counter in front of the chefs doin’ their thing- it was evident that the staff and cooks ran like a well-oiled machine. We had the halibut as a main split between the two of us, sardines on sourdough as an appetizer, yellowfin & blood orange was AMAZING, and this little tuna sausage pasta dish- holy mother of God. If I could eat that ever day…… a girl can dream. Anyway- we had a bottle of wine, with a single-shot espresso night-cap, accompanied by the key lime pie (for 2) Best key lime pie I think I’ve ever had…? I’ll have to try it again to make sure 😉 10/10
