Beautiful country pub in a quiet village with walks to and from. Open fire, attentive staff and an extensive menu of delicious food. Venison was outstanding as was the sticky toffee pudding!

I ordered the chicken saltimbocca,I had it at the sister pub The Grouse and Ale and it was a totally different dish and not as good, quite dry,go back to the original dish. Also the red wine was cold, need to keep it somewhere warmer,it has no flavour or depth when cold. Service very slow, although pleasant staff. All in all ok.

We had a lovely family lunch today. Sat at a tucked away table which was ideal for us. Food was good, hot, well presented. One thing was disappointing. Before booking, I called to ask if dogs could be in the restaurant and I was told no, they could only be in the bar. Today, there was a dog in the restaurant. We paid for a dog-sitter so we’re quite annoyed when we saw the dog there.

As usual, a very friendly welcome and tasty food, though lacking in atmosphere as only one other table in us on a Thursday evening, which is a real shame for the restaurant. Pretty good value (four dining) at approx £50 a head for 4 aperitifs, 3 courses each and a bottle of wine & tip. Only slight niggle was the size of the Sticky Toffee pudding - not much difference to a fairy cake ! Sauce delicious, with the clotted cream, but need more 'cake'. Will be back.

The food and service were both excellent. Cannot fault either. Prices were good as the food was way better than average and worth paying that little bit extra for but it was still reasonable.
