The brasserie was pretty full when we arrived, we were shown to our table and our order taken very promptly. Toast was delivered and we then waited a generous 45 minutes for our fish and chips to arrive and we were beginning to worry about having to rush for our trip to the theatre. The fish was fresh but could have done with another minute or two in the fryer as the batter was a bit pale and retaining grease. On clearing the empty plates the waitress promptly delivered our tea, coffee and cake stand which was all quite pleasant - particularly the toffee cake. We felt there wasn’t enough staff working front of house for the number of tables booked. The girls were working hard but the food just wasn’t coming out of the kitchen fast enough - was there the same lack of staff in the kitchen or were chefs holding back to enable the waitresses to deliver the food while hot? It’s close to 20 years since I’d last visited the Station Hotel so I was impressed with the face lift that had been given to the interior. The staff were pleasant and never stopped but the lengthy wait for food would make me hesitate in returning.

Booked pre panto high tea to treat my parents before Christmas. 2 out of 5 meals arrived and were almost finished before 3 chicken marylands arrived...no apology for delay. Food good, shame about the food mix up/delay
