As comfortable as an old friend, as exciting as a stranger and as colourful as the lover you are about to meet. At the new Statesman Hotel we have taken 54 years of history and revamped it with some scandal and a playful nod to the 70s.

Delicious food served with a soupçon of scandal in our fabulous new restaurant, featuring a big open kitchen so you can watch our award-winning chef and her team create mouth-watering dishes from the brand-new menu. Savour our hand-picked wine list or BYO from the Statesman's very own bottle shop.

Lovely to be able to eat at the place you are staying. We had booked a table and had to ask at the counter where to sit. We were not forewarned that there was any changes to the menu at any time so where quite surprised to find that there were not crumbed lamb cutlets available but grilled cutlets were. Cutlets cooked nicely as was the mash but very disappointed that the steamed seasonal vegetables were a mix of frozen vegetables. Meals serve promptly.

Service and people very nice, atmosphere was great but steak was plain and overpriced (disappointing). Nonetheless we’ll be back and I’ll lower my expectations on food - it’s a pub!

When the revamped statesman opened it was fantastic including the food. Alas this was not the case last night with all meals tasteless, over cooked, poor quality and in one instance not meeting a food request 3 times. We heard that the chefs have changed in recent months and it certainly shows. Won’t be back which is a real shame.

My husband is deaf with hearing aids and the level of noise as quite loud for him. He also lip reads so that helps him. We ordered a Caesar salad with both prawns and chicken. The menu states, 3 large prawns and when received he could not see the prawns. The waitress then told him that they were out of prawns so they put shrimp in instead. This was not indicated upon ordering the meal. The chicken was dry. One of the table ordered an "old Fashioned" cocktail and when it was brought to the table he apologized and said they were out of oranges so they had put some flavouring in instead. Otherwise meals were hot and others enjoyed their meal.

Food made cheaply, highly overpriced. Eg. Fish and chips. 2 thin pieces fish battered, handful green salad no tomato no onion no cucumber, and chips $29. Old menu was better. Staff super friendly, always helpful, always recognised us when we came. We dined there at least 3 or 4 times a week, great location. Menu now overpriced for what you get sadly. I think now it'll be just coffee.

Very disappointing this time. Menu has changed, not pub food. This is not a high end restaurant. The snitzels came with chips and lettuce leaf which was meant to be salad, snapper uncooked or frozen, served with a bok choy leaf, the pie was sitting in burnt gravy, the fish and chips as meant to come with salad but again a leaf of something. The fish was ling which should have been nice but half cooked and batter was overly thick. Kids meals were great. Service was very pleasant and helpful. A disappointment for expensive food.

We were celebrating the life of my father. Our Wake was a small and intimate group and we were treated wonderfully. Meals were lovely and the service especially good.
