About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
Since welcoming its first guests in 1773, The Red Lion Inn has earned a reputation for outstanding food and genuine country hospitality. Those traditions are continued today by Executive Chef Jon Sterrett, whose kitchen features contemporary cuisine that is rooted in the region's history and harvests. Emphasizing the use of fresh, local ingredients and a huge proponent of buying locally and sustaining the region, Chef Sterrett regularly updates the Inn's menus to reflect the bounty of each season. Guests choose from the elegant Main Dining Room and the cozy Widow Bingham's Tavern. The wine list offers 500 plus selections, and has received the Wine Spectator best of Award of Excellence for ten consecutive years; Sommelier Tim Eustis helps pair wines with meals. If you would like to dine in the Tavern, please choose Bar when making your reservation.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
The Red Lion Inn offers a charming New England dining experience with a "quintessential" ambiance and "exceptional" service. Diners rave about the "unique and delicious" lobster rolls and the "superb" filet mignon. The historic setting enhances the experience, though some find the menu limited and prices high. A must-visit!

The RLI is an always reliable restaurant for dining. The food is beautifully prepared and delicious; we highly recommend the Lobster Roll. The service is always, in our experience, excellent. The atmosphere is so relaxing that we tend to tend to order apps and dessert & coffee just to be able to stay longer.

The Red Lion Inn is a time capsule to a better dining experience. The decor is truly perfect and I hope whenever maintenance is done in this space that they maintain the styling. There is ZERO reason to modernize or anything like that. It's the old world charm that we love. The live piano music just was the icing on the cake. The service was also perfectly balanced. The waitress was attentive but not hovering. We never wanted to for anything. The drinks came out quickly and the food was amazing. I wish more restaurants preserved what makes the Red Lion in so special.

The Red Lion Inn is a quintessential New England inn that is a nostalgic must-see in the Berkshires. We ate in the tavern, which is quaint and filled with items from bygone eras. The food was quite good, the service was excellent and we really enjoyed our experience!

The Red Lion never disappoints! Great ambience and a great place to celebrate special occiaons. My only complaint was that what used to be a complimentary bread basket is now $8.00 for 4 very small rolls. Thankfully our waitress alerted us that there would be a fee.
