  • Jolie Laide Wines at The Progress

    Mar 20, 2025 only
The Progress will be hosting the team from Jolie Laide Wines, offering their creative wines alongside our à la carte menu. Participation is not required. Jolie-Laide is a small, avant-garde winery in Sonoma County, California, founded by Scott and Jenny in 2010. Their name, meaning "Pretty-Ugly" in French, reflects their philosophy of unconventional beauty. Known as pioneers of the "New California" movement, they emphasize natural winemaking with low intervention, whole-cluster fermentation, and early harvests to preserve acidity and freshness. They work with sustainably farmed vineyards and unique, lesser-known grape varieties. The winery also features changing, artistic labels each year, celebrating the artistry behind their wines.

    May 1, 2025 only
The Progress will be hosting the team from Robert Sinskey Vineyards, offering their exceptional wines alongside our à la carte menu. Participation is not required. RSVnapa is a second-generation, family-owned vineyard and winery, committed to organic farming and sustainable practices since 1991. They follow Rudolph Steiner's “whole farm” philosophy, prioritizing soil health to create vibrant, balanced wines. With 200+ acres of vineyard and natural habitats, they foster biodiversity and sustainability. Winemaker Jeff Virnig crafts wines that emphasize elegance and finesse, avoiding score-driven reviews. The farm also integrates sheep, enriching soil and providing wool, completing the cycle of life in a closed-loop, eco-friendly system.

The meal was superb. The food was glorious, the service excellent. My only complaint was the noise, the sound system could have been dialed down a bit. The volume made everyone talk louder, so the noise escalated. That said, I would return in a heartbeat.

We did not find The Progress to be a vegan friendly experience, despite supposedly being one of the only "vegan-friendly Michelin star restaurants". My friend was visiting from Japan for the first time and I booked The Progress to be a special experience worth a splurge. We communicated that we were vegan a total of 4 times: 1. in the reservation note, 2. by message the day of, 3. confirming with the host upon arrival, and 4. communicating with our server (who didn't seem to be aware beforehand). Despite this, we were still served a non-vegan dish with cheese on it (when we ordered, the server assured us this one could be made vegan). To make matters worse, no one returned to our table for probably 10 minutes -- I kept trying to flag someone down the whole time but they never looked our way even when at the table directly next to us. So we sat there unable to eat the whole time and weren't able to get it fixed until the next dish was brought out -- to which they casually said "yes, it does seem there is cheese on it" and that they'd replace it. The server only briefly mentioned "by the way, sorry about that earlier" to me (not addressing us both) shortly before delivering the check, which was the only direct acknowledgement or apology we got. This didn't feel proportionate to how significant of a negative impact this had on our experience, given the lengths I went to to make sure this wouldn't happen, and because for my friend's and my beliefs and cultural backgrounds, being presented with animal products is seriously disturbing and not just a minor preference that can be treated like no big deal. The noise level was also so loud we couldn't hear each other speak without leaning across the table and even then it was a struggle. The tables were also unexpectedly close to each other, which is very unpleasant for us to have to be surrounded by the smell and visuals of people eating animals. Overall, we did not feel respected or comfortable.
