About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for groups
  • Charming
Servin’ everything but the squeal! The Pit Authentic Barbecue is home to world-famous tangy Eastern NC whole-hog, pit-cooked barbecue. Located in the Warehouse District, we source premium AWA-certified hogs to cook low and slow for twelve hours. All of our spirits have been handpicked to enhance the smoked and sometimes spicy fare cooked off the pit, from beer to bourbon.

Last but not least, we serve up a good time at unique private dining events. Our contemporary setting in a restored 1930s meatpacking warehouse is the perfect spot for rehearsal dinners, birthdays, and more. Check out the link below for details!

The bbq was tough and chewy. The potato salad and coleslaw lacked any real flavor. When we let the server know we were simply told “I will let the kitchen know.” It was very disappointing to be in BbQ country and have such a poor experience after all of the reviews giving The Pit such high marks.

Always a great experience. This was no different. A couple of our guests were running late and the staff was super accommodating and friendly on a very busy night.

This is a fun restaurant to take kids. The service was very slow for an early 5 pm dinner and we had our 4 year old grandson there. I asked the hostess about it and she said one of the servers in our section and called out and they were short handed. It took a long time for water/drinks and complimentary hush puppies and biscuits. But, oddly, the main courses came pretty quickly after that. The hush puppies were great. The biscuits were dry. The sides were all terrific - my green beans and sweet potatoes were delicious. My pulled pork was just okay and I was jealous of the 2 people who ordered the brisket (they raved about it.). And one of us was very disappointed there was no turkey available. We would definitely go back and order with the wisdom we gained from our first visit.

Went last Sunday and food was amazing. I’m not sure what happened today but no turkey bbq, collards were overcooked and the bbq was drenched/soiled with vinegar. A little disappointed but the service and overall love for the restaurant will keep me coming back. Something was a little off today but…the pit is still one of a kind.

The staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the more upscale BBQ with very good food. We had ordered a little of everything and it all was great.

Food was ok, ribs didn’t have enough seasoning. Waitress didn’t check on us much.
