Not as good as I remember on previous occasions. The chairs needed fixing, loose joints, I pinched my finger whist trying to adjust my position. The food was ok but no more, the guy cutting the meat had little idea on how to cut beef, going with the grain rather than across it. Service was ok. A bit noisy.

We had high expectations coming here, based on other reviews, so I booked it for my birthday meal with family...Unfortunately we were very disappointed with our visit. Start with the meat - I had to ask for more as was given 2 slim slices of turkey and some bitty gammon, a crushed yorkshire pudding which did not look home made. We then went along the serving counter and waited for the majority of the veg to be replenished. After around 5 minutes we asked if there was any more carrots, roast potatoes, dauphinois potatoes and swede - to which the guy cutting the meat replied I will go and ask - so obviously there was no one checking on this - our meat and yorkshire pudding was now cold. They came out with stuff in plastic mixing bowls and poured the new food contents over the top of the old food which had been sat there. The pea bowl was full , however the serving spoon was a cappuccino style long spoon - we thought it was a joke. The cauliflower cheese looked like baby rice pudding. The stuffing balls were burnt and rock hard and lumpy gravy and the serving ladle was that full of gravy I had to use a serviette as to not get it on my hands. We felt there was no one running the pub, never saw anyone in charge and lots of the workers hanging round chatting, sipping on their own drinks by the till area. When the waitress collected out plates, she asked if everything was ok , we told her about the carvery and she replied with "sorry about that, next time let us know" first of all we did let you know when we was waiting for our food and second of all we wont be coming back.

Carvery food was burnt and dried up in parts like it had been under the heaters all day and not refreshed. The gravy was that think it was like a sheet of tarmack over your dinner. One of the mixed grills the steak was all fat and grizzle.

Saturday at 5pm was completely empty. Not sure if that’s always the case as we’ve never been before. Had the carvery, meat good quality but vegetables had clearly been sitting there for quite some time and were not hot. Roast potatoes gone hard and dauphinoise were dried over rock hard on top so had to dig from bottom of dish. Gravy had gone extremely thick. Whilst all the above is an accurate description, the taste of the food was nice, so we were disappointed, as drove all the way there because it had been recommended as a great carvery. Maybe we just chose the wrong time of day but if the food is being served it should be of consistent quality.

Excellent service ( with a nice smile). Clean and tidy, no loud music, easy parking.
