About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Great for fine wines
The Ivy restaurant has been a firm fixture on London’s dining and social scene since 1917. The restaurant and private room upstairs are the epitome of real glamour. A shimmering central dining bar in the restaurant draws admiring attention, and the signature harlequin stained-glass windows, oak panelling and striking contemporary art collection ensure the longevity of this very British of dining institutions. Executive Chef Gary Lee creates balanced seasonal menus, featuring Ivy classics, but accounting for today’s tastes, incorporating more Asian dishes, salads and vegetables, and the advent of a “sea and shells” section. Director Fernando Peire leads a strong and experienced team to deliver the unfaltering service for which The Ivy has become well known over the years. The Ivy welcomes customers without reservations at the central dining bar, where the A La Carte and Set menus are both served.

Rather disrespectful receptionist. We walked in stood in front of her at 15:45 and it took her 10-20 seconds to lift her head up and speak to us. There was no one in the queue and no way she has not seen us. Her attitude changed more neutral when I told her we have reservation, maybe she thought we were another tourist in town. Main dish came 10+ minutes after they removed all the finished starter and the wellington beef was barely warm when it was served. Tiffany the waitress was excellent nonetheless and a gentleman did come and apologise and offered to re do the dish which we declined. This is first negative review I have written in at least 20 dinners and the experience was far below what we expect for a restaurant like Ivy having eaten at other Ivy in London which were all great.

I’ve eaten at several Ivy restaurants over the years and I have no idea why the good reviews. Decor is ok . Nothing great. I’ve yet to have a tasty meal. The service is flamboyantly over the top. And it’s noisy with their loud playlist, crashing plates and trays and celebrating clients. Today was no different. High marks for the bread and fries. Awful eggs Benedict, Bloody Mary and appetizer olives. Ordinary crème brûlée.

Not an Ivy. The Ivy - always a fantastic environment that feels special. Classic menu that’s hard to beat. Most importantly the Shepards Pie is unchanged and as amazing as ever.

A delightful pre-Theatre experience as always. We welcomed friends from the states who very much enjoyed the fish and chips and the service was relaxed, friendly and entirely attentive as usual. A great selection of wines.

A great venue to meet old friends and enjoy the sophisticated and classy environment. Super attentive service and great recommendations on wine and food. Tempura prawns are big , crispy and tasty and the sirloin steaks were perfectly cooked. It feels exclusive and special like it should do being the original Ivy. When you fancy a later drink after your meal go to the club to finish off your experience in cool lounge.
