We picked The Hideaway in Beverly Hills after seeing strong reviews online and from IG food bloggers. The space has a Baja/Mexican vibe but felt more like a tourist trap than an authentic dining experience. We waited about 10 minutes for our table under the canopy. Our server, Brent, was excellent—friendly, attentive, and tried his best to salvage the experience. We started with the “One Night in Tulum” cocktails ($21), mezcal-based drinks served in ceramic donkeys. Gimmicky and average. For an appetizer we got the Ceviche de Camarón ($25) it lacked acid, salt, and shrimp flavor. We asked for side of lime and salt. For mains, we had Pan Roasted Scallops ($52) and an 8 oz Filet Mignon ($62). The scallops were slightly overcooked and bland, though the jicama slaw was good. The filet came out medium and sliced when we requested medium rare and intact. Sent it back, came back sliced again. Texture and flavor were off—we left most of it. Brent comped sparkling water and cocktails. The $250 bill didn’t sit well with me, but after speaking with the manager, they generously comped $150 and gave us two more cocktails at the bar—those Whiskey Sours were excellent. Still, even with the discount, the food didn’t justify the hype or prices. A couple of hours later, we randomly hit up El Carmen, a dive bar a few blocks way. We overheard a bartender telling another patron about. The grilled fish and asada street tacos were authentic flavor bombs. Amazing verde salsa, too. We will be staying away from the Hideaway.

Great location food and service, the Mexican theme is good but not great, lacks the BH vibe.
