Consistently a top grade restaurant in quality food and excellent service with creative menu crafting. And a fair value.

New year evening was huge disappointment. They create a two separate menus for that event. Could not really do much with gluten free options. Food was far away from delicious. Super fatty burger meat, not tasty fish … Drinks and desserts were good.

The New Year’s Eve food was average. Nothing great for the high price. Average drinks.

Great restaurant. We ate here after touring the Art Institute but it would also be great before or after a Bears game. Salmon BLT may be the best sandwich in the world. Server was funny and well informed. The bartender knows what he is doing!

Overall, a disappointing experience. To put it simply, the food was mediocre at luxe prices. The service was phenomenal however. Nestled in a cozy space right across from Millennium Park, The Gage brings an interesting and eclectic menu that, in hindsight sight, was a cautionary tale. Atmosphere was great and our server, Sarah, went above and beyond. Truly excellent service. Although the playlist of choice was filled with generic covers of popular songs. The food, the main star of the show, left me feeling confused. Starting off with a lovely cheese, fruit, and jam platter (more of an aperitif-take on a dessert), I was hopeful. The elk rack, at $72, laughably seemed under portioned with a lackluster taste that left me wondering what the $72 was for. The heirloom carrots made me feel like a rabbit; extremely al dente not far from the produce section. Interestingly, the chicken biryani was a great take on a staple highlighting the restaurant’s potential. The basque cheesecake was okay, seemed to be a few days old with a dry almost sandy texture. We only sent back the elk rack and it was thankfully removed from the bill, however, I can’t help but feel we lost somehow.
