The Durham Ox is a family owned traditional village Inn offering friendly and efficient service; showcasing the best of local produce in our menu, as well as stocking an extensive range of wines and cask ales. An award winning traditional pub complete with flag stone floors, exposed beams, oak panelling and roaring fires in winter.
(We have dog friendly tables, but these are limited so please do call us to secure one if your dog is dining with us.)
As well as our extensive restaurant areas, The Durham Ox has several spaces for Private Dining to celebrate any occasion and can seat between 10-85 guests for a formal or informal dinner. For those wishing for over-night accommodation there are five converted farm cottages that provide a peaceful and charming place to stay, the converted Studio Suite located above the pub and a self catered cottage in the village, Ivy Cottage that sleeps up to 6 people.

    Although the building is really nice, the outside tables charming, overall a disappointing experience. We had a very simple lunch, buddha bowls which were fine, though the waiter was dumbfounded when we asked for dressing ('I'll see what I can do' as if it were a huge ask to want for dressing with a salad).). The chips were greasy and tasted stale. Delicious and expensive wine...however we were overcharged and when I rung up to query the bill (I was treating a friend so didn't want a fuss in front of her)...the person I spoke to said "Oh yes, we charged for a magnum not a bottle of the wine". I was refunded the difference but still the service charge was nearly £16 for bad service....not good enough. Not nearly apologetic enough sort of 'sorry about that' attitude. I have been there many times, even had significant birthday celebrations but it really has gone downhill. I do not recommend.

    Interesting lunch menu options, from 2 or 3 course specials to a full a la carte menu. There is also a selection of sandwiches if you are less hungry.

    This was our first time at the Durham Ox, I have only heard great things about the place so thought I would try it for myself. Well, it was outstanding. The service was great, the food was absolutely beautiful and the place itself is so lovely. I wasn't sure whether to go for the smoked salmon crumpet or the beer battered black pudding, I ended up going with the salmon, however the waitress came up to me and said I'd heard your conversation so here's some black pudding for you to try as well. Well, I was blown away by that, what incredible service and an incredible wow moment. Thanks Durham Ox I will be back again really soon.

    We decided the food was the best we have ever had! Delicious, fresh, hot. The pub has a very comfortable,relaxed feel. The staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. We left feeling good having had a wonderful evening.

    The best place to eat by a mile! Delicious food, friendly and efficient staff, lovely atmosphere - taken out by my daughter for a Mother's Day treat - wonderful! Highly recommended

    6 of us came for my mum's 81st birthday celebrations. It was a truly outstanding day out. A warm welcome A wide range of delicious food Looked after throughout Food amazing Even got mango homemade free truffles with our coffees All smiles from the bar and staff An amazing birthday treat Thank you we will becoming again

    We celebrated the last today of term as a family and invited my son’s friend to join us. We like to eat early which worked well with the Anniversary menu, the food was delicious it’s not the typical set menu. It was good to see other families out together too. I chatted to a beautiful young lady who said it took 45minutes to drive The Durham Ox but it’s absolutely worth it! I second that, thank you to the whole team for taking care of us.

    Our first visit. Met by friendly staff, food arrived in good time, it wasn't piping hot but it was delicious. Will definitely be returning.
