Had a Sunday roast, absolutely beautiful. I always think you can't really beat a homemade roast but this was every bit as good. Not cheap but worth it.. great friendly service as well.

At the time of booking we were not informed that it would be a limited set menu only. There was only a choice of 4 mains - fish , steak or chicken or a vegetarian option. I went for the steak which had a £5 supplement. I asked for medium rare but the steak arrived very undercooked -quite raw in the middle . I had difficulty cutting it and so asked for it to be redone . It was still tough when it arrived and when I tried to eat it it was very chewy and hard to eat . The waitress offered me a steak knife but the meat was too tough even for a steak knife and I really struggled to eat. Eventually I gave up and left the food . The manager refused to admit that the steak was not only badly cooked but it was probably if a poor quality which can only explain why it was tough. I had to contend with not paying the £5 supplement but considering I hardly touched the steak it was not good enough offer and no apologies. It did ruin our evening . My husband’s fish was edible but hardly gourmet . I will not be recommending this restaurant. Very poor show indeed .

The great thing about the Cliffe, especially for jazz lovers is that they have meals with jazz. This was a jazz dinner, music accompanying a three or two course meal. Three courses is just right at the Cliffe; the meal portions mean you do have just enough capacity to include that delicious dessert. which is a bonus compared to other venues where you have to regretfully decline. And then the mellow music goes so well with the food and the waiters are just the right amount of attentive.
