The Catbird Seat is an intimate, chef-driven restaurant and culinary incubator that provides chefs a creative outlet in an interactive and open kitchen setting. With just 20 seats arranged around a U-shaped counter, guests are offered a front-row view of the chefs at work, crafting a 10-12 course tasting menu that evolves with the seasons.

Currently led by Chefs Tiffani Ortiz and Andy Doubrava, the menu features a dynamic selection of dishes that emphasize sustainability and innovation. Drawing on ingredients preserved from past seasons, foraged finds, and items from their larder, Ortiz and Doubrava showcase their commitment to creativity, resourcefulness, and a modern approach to sustainable cooking.

Since its opening, The Catbird Seat has received numerous accolades, including recognition as one of GQ Magazine’s Best New Restaurants, Bon Appetit’s Best New Restaurants, Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Wine Restaurants, and Opinionated About Dining’s Top 100 North American Restaurants.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Tiffani Ortiz & Andy Doubrava

From the OpenTable editors: When it opened 2011, Strategic Hospitality’s flagship tasting restaurant kicked off a new era of fine dining in Nashville. In addition to racking up accolades from GQ and Bon Appétit, Catbird Seat has been an incubator for some of the city’s top chefs. Today, Tiffani Ortiz and Andy Doubrava command the open, counter-style kitchen, turning out innovative New American tasting menus that can stretch to 18 courses of dishes like a walnut cookie filled with chicken liver mousse and berry preserves.

After years of working together in New York City, and again meeting during their time cooking in Los Angeles, our own Catbird Seat Chefs Andy and Tiffani reconnected with longtime friend and peer Dustin while recently integrating into the local food scene. Guests at the newly helmed The Catbird Seat's first collaborative chef dining event can expect a melding of both sustainable and fresh local ingredients paired with unique flavors from Chef Gonsalves' new Guyanese pop up Banwari.

The food tasted good but not enough protein options. Mostly vegetables and they use too much butter. The ambiance feels a bit like your in a Thai restaurant kitchen with light peach colored walls……..definitely doesn’t feel like your in a n upscale restaurant paying $250pp. The staff is a bit weird looking and awkward. Definitely not worth paying an arm & leg for mediocre chefs’ experimenting with your taste buds!

Best dinner we have ever had. The food was unreal. My only complaint is that if you are hungry this food won’t fill you up as it is just tasting.

My husband and I waited to dine here on our last night in Nashville and it was the highlight of our trip. Every dish was unique, artistic, and most importantly DELICIOUS. I wanted more of each bite and just when I thought the current course was my favorite, the next one proved me wrong. Sitting around the kitchen watching the chefs prepare each plate was a real treat. We loved the conversations with each chef; you could tell how passionate they were about the dishes they created, the ingredients they used and the homage they paid to them with all their sustainable efforts. Service was impeccable! Besides the incredible plating, each course was served in different serving dishes and utensils that matched the dish. I especially enjoyed the “sommelier “ who had a knack for describing wine like Jimmy Kimmel does with one liners. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the music. The 90’s playlist was right up our alley and the chef’s kiss to the evening. We will come back to Nashville for the sole reason of dining there again. Hopefully you get homemade bread at you dinner. (Thanks Matt for the doggie bag)!

Best oysters ever, very tasty! Good to see them prepare all the dishes. I got the wine pairing which enhanced the meal experience. Started at the Patterson House for cocktails, they tasted delicious. Highly recommend for special occasions.
