---The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, now run by the fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. Today's Berghoff menus have evolved to add newer, lighter, and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. In December 2018, the Berghoff family opened Adams Street Brewery, aptly named after the street they have called home for over a century, to nod to their brewing roots and commemorate the restaurant's 120th anniversary.

we were trying to make it to a play in the evening. Had a wonderful waiter who got her food out right away. The food was absolutely delicious, better than I remembered it. Will definitely come back.

We’ve lived in chicago for over 10 years and wanted to try this restaurant after seeing the CSO. Overall underwhelming food. Our server was super nice, fast, efficient while the food was just ok. Cheese curds were fine, I’ve had much better. Veal schnitzel was crispy and juicy, spatzel was not hot and the creamed spinach looked and tasted like is was sitting dished up in a hot box all day. Goulash was ok with flavor, the meat was very tender. Space is great for a big family or group. We probably won’t go back.

We had a mid-day meal, ordering wienerschnitzel and substituting spaetzle and red cabbage for the printed sides. Our waitress was accommodating. She was a "vintage waitress" who added to the charm of the restaurant. The food was reasonably priced, but a little disappointing. The red cabbage was wonderful, the spaetzle a little boring/unseasoned. The veal was somewhat dry, but the excellent dill pickles cut through the dryness. A glass of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay ($15) was a good choice. The bill, per person with tip, was about $55. It was easy access from our hotel, which made it an appealing choice.

The restaurant environment itself was cool. But for being pretty empty the service was subpar. I can't imagine if this place was full. The hostess wasn't friendly didn't greet us or even smile at all. Food was decent and hot, and was timely. Didn't get refills on our drinks and they were empty before the soup even came. We had to ask each time and took a while. The food was good but definitely overpriced.
