A Traditional Derbyshire Inn
With A Five Counties View!

The Barrel Inn, a traditional Derbyshire country inn, dates back to 1597 and stands at the head of Bretton Clough, in the heart of the Peak District.

Being one of only five properties in this small hamlet, on a table of land some 1300 feet above sea level, The Barrel Inn proudly claims to be the highest pub in Derbyshire.

Its panoramic views of the majestic Hope Valley and the Peak District National Park are magnificent and on a clear day you are able to enjoy views over five counties.

The pub serves a fine selection of well kept real ales and delicious, freshly cooked, mostly locally sourced food, every day.

Old worldly charm - peaceful oak-beamed bar, real log fires, flagstone floors, studded doors in low doorways, beamed ceilings and polished copper and brass - have all been retained to enhance the overall charm and friendliness of the Inn.

    Excellent as always. Choice of food and preparation could not be faulted. The Christmas menu was very good as we were not expecting it. It has got Christmas off to a good start. The room was warm and the service was very efficient. It was busy but this did not impact on service.

    Good quality food that tasted good and was well presented. Service was timely inspite of all tables being booked. Staff were very friendly sndctge atmosphere was relaxed. It says a lot that so many people will travel to this remote pub . It is a wonderful location. Highly recommended

    We went for lunch at the Barrel as it is my birthday. The food was exceptional, my husband had the hand raised steak pie and i had a venison burger. The presentatation was beautiful, the food was hot and tasty and service was excellent. The staff paid attention to the order - my husband hates veg but it’s amazing how often his food comes with green stuff on - not so at the barrel, his meal came exactly as he wanted it. We wholeheartedly recommend it.

    Highly recommended! Superb food & drinks with plenty of choice on the menu.Sunday Roast was excellent. Table for 4 and will definitely be returning !

    Fantastic lunch, food was well cooked and presented beautifully. Staff were friendly and efficient. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for making our pre Christmas family get together so enjoyable.
