About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
The Ahwahnee Dining Room is currently serving breakfast and dinner in buffet style service featuring many classic favorites like eggs benedict and a full selection of breakfast favorites. At dinner, enjoy a carving station featuring our famous Prime Rib and more. If you experience difficulty making a reservation through Open Table, please call us directly at (209) 372-1490 so we may assist you.

The Ahwahnee is near completion of a seismic retrofit renovation project in partnership with the National Park Service to preserve this iconic hotel. During the last phase of the project (May - August), the impacted areas will be isolated to the West Terrace and surrounding areas near the Dining Room. This work will result in some obstructed views, and we expect construction noise between 10AM–4PM, Monday–Friday. We have done our best to mitigate any negative guest experiences, though we recognize it may cause inconveniences and conditions. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

There is a discrepancy online as to whether there is a dress code. Currently, there is NO dress code due to the restaurant only serving buffet style. We chose to dress for the occasion. The food was very good and plentiful, as it was a buffet. The choices were adequate but not varied. For example, one type of salad dressing, and one potato. Overall very expensive dining experience but we enjoyed our time at this iconic restaurant.

The Ahwahnee restaurant is beautiful, with views of the granite cliffs framed by tall windows. The food offerings were limited due to construction that has impacted their kitchen - but why that is the case was not evident. The dinner buffet had typical offerings (fish, chicken, beef) with salad, starches, cooked vegetables and dessert. The food was mostly well prepared, but unimaginative and bland. Unfortunately there were very limited options for people with dietary restrictions (e.g. lactose intolerance). It would be prudent for the chef to consider offering more dairy-free options and/or allow diners to add butter to their taste.

We loved our daily breakfasts in the dining room. The buffet was great and the service was the best. Alec made our mornings and gave great tips.

Beautiful room, but as per usual, the food and service very mediocre. If you truly want to run a first rate restaurant and hotel, you need to find a vendor that is not primarily contracted to run correctional facilities.

Buffet food "service" is getting old, as are some of the items in the not-so-warm serving displays. We found the prime rib, medium rare and rare to be wonderful and tender. Some of the side dishes were cold, luke-warm and even dried out.
