About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
The Ahwahnee Dining Room is currently serving breakfast and dinner in buffet style service featuring many classic favorites like eggs benedict and a full selection of breakfast favorites. At dinner, enjoy a carving station featuring our famous Prime Rib and more. If you experience difficulty making a reservation through Open Table, please call us directly at (209) 372-1490 so we may assist you.

The Ahwahnee is near completion of a seismic retrofit renovation project in partnership with the National Park Service to preserve this iconic hotel. During the last phase of the project (May - August), the impacted areas will be isolated to the West Terrace and surrounding areas near the Dining Room. This work will result in some obstructed views, and we expect construction noise between 10AM–4PM, Monday–Friday. We have done our best to mitigate any negative guest experiences, though we recognize it may cause inconveniences and conditions. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Extensive renovations to the kitchen has reduced the food to a good buffet and the view outside has been impaired. The service and elegance is still amazing. Still worth a visit especially since the price for breakfast was reasonable for the many options including lox. The chorizo gravy for the biscuits was very good and spicy. Our waiter was fantastic including providing interesting info about the hotel.

Understandably, you don’t go to Yosemite for the food. But that’s no excuse for the sub-par dining experience delivered at the beautiful and historic Ahwahnee Hotel. Weirdly amateurish service and an average dinner buffet for the princely sum of $63 aren’t a disaster, but the stunning setting — and Yosemite visitors with few alternatives — calls for better.

Buffet only. Food was mediocre, dry, and cold. Very expensive for mediocre food. Have dined here 4-5 times now, worst experience to date.

What happened? For the past 25+ years we have looked forward to and enjoyed many meals at the Ahwahnee. It’s always been a special place for us to visit and make memories. I don’t know what has happened to the place we knew and loved but it’s obviously gone. The best thing about our Mother’s Day brunch was the pianist. The buffet was not only sparse in quantity and quality but it was $63 a person, not to mention the mandatory valet parking at $10 plus tip. The only side dish was Mac and cheese which tasted like it came straight from Sysco. The server slicing the prime rib was literally sawing on it because he said it was the sharpest knife they had. I tasted a green olive in the salad area and almost choked due to the incredibly spicy liquid it had evidently been marinated in. Even the desserts were utterly forgettable. Even our dinner at the Mountain Room restaurant was better. So sad, disappointing and expensive!

Idk, I grew up getting to stay at the Ahwahnee and dine there fairly regularly (ie- a few times per year) and the venue is always lovely, the staff always fantastic. The buffet, for what it is (a buffet), was quite expensive and just registered as “ok” to me (so good for a buffet with some great prime rib, but I’m not a fan of buffets so to me, the value didn’t go in-hand with the cost). Again- go for the ambiance and a special dining experience with exemplary staff, but until they move back from buffet service to regular dining I’ll probably wait to come back. It’s a special place so DO go and enjoy it if you have the chance!

Food was cold, server was lovely though. Most of the good was gone by the time we got there and not a great selection especially for the price

VERY disappointing. We paid nearly $200 for a two glasses of wine and a mediocre, barely lukewarm buffet meal with limp boring salads. We were expecting more from this fine old hotel. Our servers were good, although not much service was required for a buffet. We learned that the kitchen wa sunder renovation (and had been for 2years) , hence the buffet,. We would not have gone if we’d known that in advance.

Buffet only for the time being until they finish refurbishing the kitchen. Surprisingly good food. Great experience. Will be back.

The hotel restaurant is in the middle of renovations so we only had an option of a buffet. However, the buffet was very delicious and had wonderful options. The dining room was stunning.
