About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
The Ahwahnee Dining Room is currently serving breakfast and dinner in buffet style service featuring many classic favorites like eggs benedict and a full selection of breakfast favorites. At dinner, enjoy a carving station featuring our famous Prime Rib and more. If you experience difficulty making a reservation through Open Table, please call us directly at (209) 372-1490 so we may assist you.

The Ahwahnee is near completion of a seismic retrofit renovation project in partnership with the National Park Service to preserve this iconic hotel. During the last phase of the project (May - August), the impacted areas will be isolated to the West Terrace and surrounding areas near the Dining Room. This work will result in some obstructed views, and we expect construction noise between 10AM–4PM, Monday–Friday. We have done our best to mitigate any negative guest experiences, though we recognize it may cause inconveniences and conditions. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

The Ahwanee is a beautiful building and the dining room was rich in ambience. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was average for a breakfast buffet.

If you intend to eat at the dinner buffet, dine early night. We did it at 8:00pm and the only thing they had was “leftover “ It was the worst experience so far I ever had.

The Ahwahnee is amazing! However, I was disappointed that the food was not very warm. Our waiter was wonderful and got a lot of information for me about things I needed to avoid for sensitivities. One thing I need to avoid is dairy so when the rice spoon had polenta on it I asked for a new spoon and the attendant merely shook it clean vs getting a clean spoon. Kind of lame. For the cost, I expect better than that. And there were construction pieces all around outside the windows. Again, for the cost, they should stage this stuff out of view. I expect better.

The dinner was buffet style due to construction of the kitchen. The prime rib was delicious. The dining room is the style of 1927 when the hotel was built. Not to be missed!

Buffet, nothing special, plain food. Prime rib was good, pork tenderloin had no flavor & BBQ sauce was offerd as sauce. would have been nice to have sautéed apples to dress it up. Prawns were wonderful. Brocclini was over cooked, Squash took 30 minutes to refill which was a HUGE dissipointment. I like to eat veggies & have them with my meal. They were very good once I finally got them. Desserts were just ok. Lemon bars, chocolate strawberries were the best. Brownies and mini cheesecakes were also offered but were just ok. Service was fine. We were sat next to the busing station even though we were one of the first to arrive. I thought the other tables were being saved for a party of 4, but 2 people were sat at those tables in the atrium. We had requested special seating as it was our 30 anniversary. The Mountian room Lounge may have been a better choice to eat at?? food was nice there in the past.

The Grand Dining Hall is magnificent, well worth the effort to get a reservation. We weren’t hotel guests, but the staff and ambience were terrific anyway. The food was not outstanding to the same quality as the surroundings, but good nonetheless. The dinner menu is buffet style, so may be less than ideal temperature, or gone before you get there. This is still a must-do in Yosemite imo. One thing to note: I reserved a table through OpenTable, earliest time was 8.30. I tried a few times to get an earlier time to no avail. So we went early anyway, perhaps to visit the bar. When we notified the staff that we’d arrived and available for an early seating, we were whisked straight through to a table, so don’t believe this website for reservation times!

Be aware it is a Buffet! So disappointed that it was a buffet. I have been to this beautiful dinning room over many years and always such a delicious and wonderful sit down service experience. Not this time. I had a reservation for months and they wanted to seat us by service stations even when the room was pretty empty. It was a buffet and food less than average taste and there was no service. Poured water and opened a bottle of wine. Nothing else. Yes, expect it to be expensive but should have been less with the buffet. The Smashburger at the Curry lounge is much better. Save some money and have a burger.

There is a discrepancy online as to whether there is a dress code. Currently, there is NO dress code due to the restaurant only serving buffet style. We chose to dress for the occasion. The food was very good and plentiful, as it was a buffet. The choices were adequate but not varied. For example, one type of salad dressing, and one potato. Overall very expensive dining experience but we enjoyed our time at this iconic restaurant.
