About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
The Ahwahnee Dining Room is currently serving breakfast and dinner in buffet style service featuring many classic favorites like eggs benedict and a full selection of breakfast favorites. At dinner, enjoy a carving station featuring our famous Prime Rib and more. If you experience difficulty making a reservation through Open Table, please call us directly at (209) 372-1490 so we may assist you.

The Ahwahnee is near completion of a seismic retrofit renovation project in partnership with the National Park Service to preserve this iconic hotel. During the last phase of the project (May - August), the impacted areas will be isolated to the West Terrace and surrounding areas near the Dining Room. This work will result in some obstructed views, and we expect construction noise between 10AM–4PM, Monday–Friday. We have done our best to mitigate any negative guest experiences, though we recognize it may cause inconveniences and conditions. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Unfortunately, the restaurant (and hotel) staff members seem very tired, notwithstanding the fact that it is early in the season. They act disinterested at best, annoyed at worst. Currently, the restaurant is offering only an overpriced buffet for dinner—($63 for adults). Most of the east and south facing windows are boarded up due to ongoing construction on the terrace area; thus, the views are obstructed—and the views and the dining room ambience are unfortunately the only draws here now. And the views are gone for the moment. The staff at the host desk will attempt to seat in the worst possible available place in the dining room, and unless you insist on one of the few tables that still have a view outside, you will be stuck looking at a plywood board that has been placed over the window. I typically do not give a bad review to any restaurant—this is the exception.

For the price they charge per person the food should be phenomenal. The highlights of the meal were the drinks and the soup if that gives you an idea. The proteins (chicken, fish, shrimp) were incredibly bland. The prime rib was practically raw! Salad was lackluster and sad, seriously lacking in options/toppings. Now onto dessert: lemon bar (this was good), a mini fruit tart, a glorified cupcake made out of what appeared to be a mini bundt/large macaroon, and the smallest chocolate cheese cake bite I’ve ever seen which was way to dense. Far from what would be considered “fine dining dessert”. We at least were seated in a small alcove with a nice view of the waterfall, but that alcove only has 6 small round tables, so chances of being sat there aren’t high. Overall, the price is way too steep for what is offered; and if that’s what the price is gonna be, it should be simmering in flavor.

We had dinner here on Thursday and honestly felt let down. The meal was really expensive, and for that price, we expected something a lot better. The buffet-style food was just okay — nothing really stood out, and it didn’t feel worth what we paid. There was also a surprise parking fee, which was super frustrating after such an expensive meal. The space itself is beautiful, and we did enjoy getting to see the hotel — that part was a highlight. But overall, the experience didn’t justify the cost, and we wouldn’t come back.

Dining @ the Ahwahnee is not to be missed. My party of 3 adults enjoyed the Buffet, offering a variety of breakfast selections. The view of Half Dome from our table fabulous! A lovely peaceful environment enhanced our Ahwahnee/Yosemite visit that will remain a cherished memory. Kudos to the Staff maintaining a level of service under the current Federal (DOGE) budget cuts out of Washington DC. Staff attitudes remain positive & professional under these difficult circumstances.

Jack hammer going outside our room all day The elevators were not working. Had to call on a walkie talkie to get someone to get you down the service elevator. The room was very small as was the bathroom. In the dining room (buffet only) the windows were covered with paper. The service was good. This was our 25th wedding anniversary and we were very unhappy. We have never paid $700.00 a night but decided to splurge. I must say that they did give us 20% off and one free meal. Yosemite was beautiful.

Basic prime rib buffet. I enjoyed the side dishes and desserts but this was an expensive meal for what it was. Paying for the ambiance.
