First visit, the best table and most attentive service. Excellent quality of food, at a price. Would definitely return for a special occasion when the family get together in SAN again.

Third visit here and the service always leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. The steaks and ambience are great, which is why we came back. On both date nights with 2 different servers I felt ostracized for being gluten free and they "pushed" gluten on us, urging my husband to still get the bread, recommending gluten containing sides and desserts and dropping off gluten-containing free cookies at the end of the meal. One time a staff member that was boxing our leftovers was super condescending that I wanted to take home a small amount of leftover spinach and instead of putting it with my steak as I asked me put it in a huge box by itself which was passive aggressive AF. The last straw was the "king crab mashed potatoes" these fell way below what we'd expect from an establishment like this. The "crab" was small shrimp and what looked and tasted like the tiniest crab leg pieces from a snow crab that you normally wouldn't bother with. Not even fresh tasting. It's a shame but the enjoyment of our special meals was spoiled by the lack of the type of respect we would expect from any restaurant, much less one reserved for special occasions and we won't be going back out recommending to our friends anymore.

Our usual spot for steaks has been the traditional Ruth Christ , Morton’s , Del Fresco’s., but hands down Steak 49 takes them all . Very good food, service and ambiance were outstanding! Will definitely be our new favorite restaurant.

Ordered an 18oz. bone in filet and it lacked flavor. My wife and I both agreed on this so not just me. I expected it to be incredible or at a minimum very good. The cut and beef itself were fine as it was tender and did not taste bad but, it just did not taste good. Very bland. Nowhere near as good as the premium steakhouses I often go to (Bob's, Capital Grill, Mastro's, Ruth's Chris, etc). Oh, this is weird... they decided to change what medium and medium rare is versus the rest of the world. Server warned us so that was helpful but, why the heck would you do your own version of it (she said their "medium" is actually medium rare having a warm red center and pink ring). So I ordered medium and it was cooked fine, like a normal med-rare steak. The scallops, Brussel sprouts and lobster escargot were fantastic. Service was incredible, server extremely well prepared and friendly. When the server asked how the steak was I said it's just OK. So that prompted the manager to come over who offered to comp the steak but I wasn't looking for a free meal so I declined. They were very nice about it but, I am not sure I would give them another chance on steak.

The restaurant is a kind of an awkward layout but it is beautifully decorated. I love the presentation of the seafood & kitchen and the transparency of the pastry kitchen. Service is impeccable here and my server was so cheerful. My group loved the chicken-fried lobster; thought it was the sweetest lobster. The 12 oz filet mignon was perfection as were the side of mushrooms. I had the Chilean sea bass last week and it was the best Chilean sea bass that I've ever had (and I've had my fair share) in both terms of cut and quality; not as good this time as it was a bit fishy and it was a smaller cut. Dessert was great. Their pastry chefs are so creative. We loved the presentation of the beignets on the tree and the triple chocolate bombe. The key lime pie was delicious! All and all, a very enjoyable night out!
