"In 1853 in Smith Flat, over the top of the Deep Blue Channel, the Three Mile House was built. Named for its distance from central Placerville on the trail to Carson City, today it is known as the Smith Flat House. It originally consisted of a general store, post office, bedroom, dining room and dance floor. Over the next century and a half the Smith Flat House served many purposes; operating as a wagon stop during the bonanza days of the Comstock mines, as well as a hotel and restaurant, run by the Fossati family, for decades. The Smith Flat House has long been a part of the history of El Dorado County, changing with the times, always enduring and providing a wonderful gathering space for the people. Today, we strive to continue this tradition as an inviting destination for excellent food, events and activities that nourish our community and those who visit our region."

Waited about 15 minutes after our reservation time and would have appreciated a quick comment to my date and I that the table was almost ready as they seated others that arrived after we did . I know it was very busy , just a little extra tlc would have been nice .

Food was meh….room was very cold. I understand it’s a cellar but we had to wear our coats to even be comfortable. Food was rushed main entrees came out before salad and soup were even half way eaten. Very underwhelming.

We have been here many times in the past. This was a fixed menu for Valentine’s Day so a little bit different than normal. My wife had the fish, it was very dry, salad that accompanied it no dressing and not good! She did not eat it. The soup for was very salty. I had the steak, it was raw. We were seated up stairs, very small tables, chairs uncomfortable. Just overall not the experience we expected for the price we paid.

Valentine's Day dinner was arguably the biggest rip off of a dining experience l've ever encountered. Shoving people into their event room in lines of tiny cheap tables with folding chairs and serving a mass produced terrible meal and charging $190 per couple was insulting. I should have trusted my gut and left when I arrived and got seated. We were greeted with a surprise of the special holiday menu - the restaurant website made no mention of the fact that they weren't serving off the normal menu. The room was lit up like a conference room and the chairs felt like they would collapse. The appetizer was inedible and mostly made of salt. The lobster bisque had maybe a hint of lobster at best. The filet mignon was a hockey puck. The carrots that accompanied it weren't cooked enough. I will never darken the doorway of this place again and I hope this review discourages anyone else giving this place their business. The one star I gave was just because zero stars wasn't an option.

Bruschetta was soggy and made with tomatoes that weren't ripe (no flavor). Two meals had to be sent back because they were cold. The $60 steak was overpriced for the quality of the meat. They took them back to reheat and never offered to compensate us in any way. After we asked, they compensated us by not charging us for one of the risotto meals and took half off the bruschetta. Unfortunately, we will never return to this restaurant.

Quite a dining experience. A limited menu which is fine with us. Wonderful spirits enjoyed by all. Great service, lots of attention. This was our first dining experience there, and we would definitely return.

Smith Flat House is an outstanding restaurant. It is in the middle of nowhere, but great food served by friendly staff. The ambiance in the cellar or the glass house is amazing. You get what you pay for…. it is a little pricey, but worth it. We save it for special occasions.
