"Bringing Gluten-Free Soba to the People"

The Japanese word “soba” refers both to the buckwheat plant as well as the noodles made from buckwheat flour. Soba is typically served in a hot aromatic broth topped with chicken, tempura prawns or a selection of vegetables or served cooled on an elegant bamboo tray with delicate dipping sauce.

Soba is one of the world’s most nutritious food and an abundant source of protein. Containing a well-balanced combination of amino acids, it has the highest protein make-up than any of the grains and is also rich in vitamin. Additionally, soba is low in fat and high in dietary fibre.

Soba’s long and slender shape has come to symbolise stability and longevity. It is traditional in Japan to eat soba (toshi-koshi soba) on New Year’s Eve to acknowledge the passing of the old year and to welcome in the new.

    Small portions compared to other Japanese cafes offering similar menu items. The stone grinder at the front entrance was interesting to look at but was making an irritating banging noise the entire time that the soft music could not drown out. Food flavours were average and service was a bit slow. Plenty of other cool Japanese cafes to eat at - choose something else.

    I read all the good reviews so I convinced my family to dine here. Although we appreciated the happy hour discount for some drinks and some entrees, the food overall did not taste delicious nor authentic. The chicken Kara-age was overcooked, the tofu entree broth was overly salty. The broth for both the warm and cold soba we ordered were so so, with the cold soba broth with lemons tasting bitter. The soba noodles were okay but not fantastic, a tad overcooked. The prawns were not prepared as proper tempura. Definitely not value for money. I had to apologise to my family for my decision to go there. Maybe the regular chefs were on holidays.he

    Food is outstanding. It’s one of my favourite places to bring people from out of town which was today’s treat. Our waitress was wonderful but occasionally a gentleman with a very sour face brought the food. He just stood there without making room on the table, was not happy and behaved as though he wanted us to leave. Never experienced rude service like this before here.

    Great food. Service was okay. Stools were horrible to sit on. Would be back for ramen noodles were beautiful. Obviously ask to sit in a chair. Ha

    Dine here at least one a month for Saturday lunch. Can't fault it. We love sitting at the bar. Thank you for continuing to offer amazing GF Japanese with many vego options!
