Located in Historic City Point, New Haven, Connecticut, Shell and Bones Oyster Bar & Grill occupies a space that has been a legendary restaurant location for decades. Daniel Kay along with partners Marc Knight and Robert Bolduc (of Geronimo Bar & Grill) completely remodeled the restaurant. Its design pays homage to the areas nautical history while offering a light and airy space with clean lines, amazing water views, ocean breezes and a fireplace for those chilly nights.
To complete the package the trio has brought in award-winning Executive Chef Arturo Franco Camacho (Franco). Franco is a veteran of the CT food scene whose extensive repertoire spans from Chef de Cuisine on the QE2 to opening several of his own successful restaurants (Roomba, Bespoke and Suburban).
At Shell & Bones the focus is on seafood and steak utilizing fresh & sustainable ingredients. We have both indoor and outdoor dining (weather permitting) and can accommodate private parties and corporate events.

Our dining experience was less than acceptable. Our server was adequate and friendly, but it took a lot of time between her stops at the table. My first two entrée choices were unavailable, which was the duck special then I tried to switch to a fillet and that was not available on a Saturday evening at 8 o’clock. Unacceptable. Then I ordered a Caesar salad with medium rare salmon, and that was completely overdressed. The salmon was not tasty whatsoever. Overall, it was not a good dining experience and I had previously had two dining experiences there that were delightful.

We went to Shell and Bones for New Years Eve. We spent 15 minutes looking for a parking spot and had to park down the street and had a considerable walk. They sat us at a very small table up against a wall. The noise level was uncomfortable and we had to use the flashlight on our phone to read the menu . Upon reading the standard menu which had a limited selection, we discovered that what we expected to order had changed and their on line menu was not updated on items and PRICE. Like a bait and switch. Before we went I looked at the menu on their web site. We both decided on the seared scallops. They came with Celery root puree,green apple-fennel ragout saffron vin blanc. We did not order the scallops as it now came with lentils which we did not think sounded appetizing.The waiter was not knowledge on the menu and we did not see much of him. We decided on the stripped bass. It came with broccoli rob and the stems we very difficult to cut and the fish was almost tasteless. We waited so long for the waiter to return to order dessert that we decided to forget it and call it a night and left.

Wow! What a great overall experience! Everything about Shell and Bones was just outstanding. Pricing was higher than most places, but everything else made up for it! Shell and Bones is now my favorite local restaurant!

The appetizers and dessert were wonderful but the main courses were mediocre at best. All four were over salted and not very good.

Always a good experience, food is good, atmosphere is nice. We go here a couple times a year. Great wine selection. One thing that could always be better is service, always a bit slow.

We frequently come to to S&B and are never disappointed. The service staff is always very polite and knowledgeable of the menu, and the food is excellent! We’ll continue to keep coming back!
