Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

    Multiple dates available
    Parties of over six guests are required to order from our sharing menu on Fridays on Saturdays. For bookings in December we require an order from one of our festive sharing menus.     Fantastic decor, calm and relaxing atmosphere, big portions, but is expensive, over £300 for 4 of us, however food was great and we walked away stuffed with a doggy bag with the rest we couldn’t finish! Would eat there again but would be for a special occasion due to the price.

    We have eaten here regularly and generally have a very good experience; however on this occassion not so. This was particularly disappointing as we brought friends along who had never been before and promised them a wonderful experience. The food was still very tasty and great quality even the the price has once again gone up, but I felt the service wasnt what we were used to from 1814. We recently visited their sister restaurant Edo Asia up the road and that , in our opionon, has taken top spot for us.

    Absolutely fantastic food, even dessert and coffee were stellar. Interesting, unique flavours. Loved every bit. Atmosphere is so cool, both Shanghai 1814 and Edo Asia are beautiful decor with a great vibe. Expensive, but a special treat for occasions where you want to celebrate in style. Also the cocktails get a shout out as they are really phenomenal. All in all, worth every penny. Highly Recommended.

    First time visit following a recommendation and it didn’t let us down. Service was excellent throughout and food amazing. If anything there was too much. We didn’t notify them that it was my wife’s birthday but they knew and brought a dessert with candle which was excellent. Would definitely visit again and recommend

    Shanghai 1814 was absolutely fantastic. The food was excellent, and they catered really well to the gluten allergies we had as a table. We were in a private room, which helped us choose the noise level, and worked really well for our 5 year old who can get overwhelmed. The staff were very friendly and considerate.

    An exquisite night. We were served by staff that were courteous. The ambiance was simply surreal. The food without a doubt is full of flavour and brings you the taste of china through every bite. The restaurant is unforgettable and I think I would come back for more
