Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: Regulars keep swinging back to Selden Standard for small plates and craft cocktails in a cool industrial space that USA Today named one of the best restaurants of 2024. Local and seasonal produce shows up in dishes like charred octopus from the woodfired oven and seasonal fresh pastas like sweet corn agnolotti. Catch the show at the chef’s counter or hang in the back patio lined with flower murals.

Came here for the second consecutive year to celebrate my birthday tonight. Our second visit was just as delicious and enjoyable as our first. We got the beet salad, halloumi, their flatbread special, bucatini and the walleye. Every single dish had amazing flavour and decent portions. They also gave me a little birthday dessert which was a really nice way to end the meal. The cocktails were also really good-especially “I yam what I yam” was super unique and truly so tasty! Cant wait to come back next year!

The vibe was nice and the service was good. Unfortunately, the food was either too salty or too tart. Ordered the bucanti, blackened walleye and the octopus. The bucanti was very good but I was so disappointed with the walleye because the flavors were not balanced- it was too salty and tart. The octopus was not charred but actually burnt. The pineapple pound cake was too tart. I probably will not recommend to others.

We sat at the chefs counter, it's the warmest place to sit during the winter. I also love watching them cook over an open fire. It's an incredible talent to maintain a fire with wood and cook at the same time. Not to mention, it makes the food that much better. The food was exceptional, and everything was amazing. Walking out after dinner, I had no regrets.

We were nicely greeted and promptly seated for an Early business dinner. Service was attentive. Drinks were good - but martini could have been colder! Beet salad was yummy. We shared grilled octopus, beef tartare and walleye; all were nicely prepared and seasoned. Pistachio desert was good Ambience was too dark at the table. Overall 4-5 and would definitely come back

Food and drinks were great—well curated choices and inventive combinations of ingredients. Our server had good suggestions and was very helpful with our unfortunate time constraint. Music was to our taste and other diners seemed to be enjoying themselves as well. We will be back!

This restaurant is one of the best! I travel extensively and have visited James Beard nominated restaurants all over the US. By far this is my favourite. The ambience is wonderful. The service was fantastic. I was to be seated at a communal table as it was Saturday night and fully booked. When I arrived I was given a high top table near the bar which was great as I was solo. They offered and I accepted. That was a nice surprise. Prior to going to the restaurant I emailed for information on parking and such as this was my first time dining at the restaurant. Evan was quick to reply and gave me great information. The meal was immpecable! Everything I ordered was perfect and delicious. I was able to speak to the manager Paul and gave him some feedback about Evan's communication with me. I wanted to meet Evan's partner and Execuative Chef Andy but he was not there. I like to take home a signed menu. Matt the Chef de Cuisine and Alex kindly signed. Katelyn my server was ooutstanding. She was knowledgeable and answered all my questions. She suggested a wine and an after dinner drink that were so so good! The wine pared so well with my meal. I had Oven Roasted Squash and Duck Breast. For dessert the Chocolate Bread pudding. The menu changes reguarly, even the cocktails change so if you have your eye on something it may not be on the menu when you dine but that is all okay. I had a pre-dinner cocktail, a glas of wine and a sherry after dinner. Thank you Katelyn for honouring this pre-birthday meal. All said and done my bill was so much less than I anticipated! Beautiful experience. I can't wait to return.
