Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: Regulars keep swinging back to Selden Standard for small plates and craft cocktails in a cool industrial space that USA Today named one of the best restaurants of 2024. Local and seasonal produce shows up in dishes like charred octopus from the woodfired oven and seasonal fresh pastas like sweet corn agnolotti. Catch the show at the chef’s counter or hang in the back patio lined with flower murals.

Biodynamic winemaker Bàrbara Mesquida Mora will be traveling from her vineyards on the island of Mallorca to join us for a pairing dinner featuring five of her wines (and a few others, just for fun). Chef Andy will prepare six courses to match. Bàrbara is a pioneer in regenerative farming on the island, and after leaving her family business to strike out on her own, she has come to tend several parcels of vines including both indigenous and international grape varieties. Her wines are elegant and food-friendly, and we're delighted to welcome her to Detroit. We hope you'll join us!

You will find better food anywhere. I beg you try. One entree is just better than the next.

Absolutely wonderful service and the food was incredible! They made so many allowances for gluten and dairy free choices and had a menu ready to show what was in each dish that they could either substitute or do without so I could enjoy it

Fantastic in all ways usual. But with hard surfaces and just-a-tad-too-loud music, the noise level when trying to hold normal conversation was a challenge.

We went to dinner for my husband's birthday and sat at the chef's table. Which isn't really a table at all it's a bar that overlooks the grill and wood fired oven. We enjoyed talking with the chefs as they prepared our food. All the food was exceptional! The thing that was hard was that since we were sitting at a bar it was hard to share dishes and the wait staff kept reaching between us to remove the used dishes. So our conversations and our Ambiance was a little disrupted.

Never disappointed on the quality of the food. I like the changing menu so you never get bored. I complimented the chef afterwards. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Detroit.

Selden Standard is consistently and uniformly top notch, always great and interesting food preparations, with a changing menu, attentive service, all you can ask for in a higher end restaurant. Others come and go, the hot new places everyone fawns over, for a while. But Selden Standard is a stallwart of the Detroit dining scene, and one to judge the others by. Never disappoints.

The food was extraordinary! We did not have one bad bite. Our waitress recommended the duck and the cauliflower and she was not wrong. Both were our favorite dishes.
