Sammie’s is a little taste of old Italy in downtown Austin. It celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by old school, legendary Italian-American restaurants. The menu offers classic dishes in a casual but sophisticated, retro-designed space that is both lively and comfortable, capturing the essence of a night out at your favorite neighborhood joint. The space consists of a central dining room overlooking Shoal Creek and 6th Street, polished wood bar, Mildred’s Room (a private dining/wine room), and wraparound patio dining area. Please note that patio seating is weather contingent.


The menu offers riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, and Linguine Vongole; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti.

    Appetizer was awesome. Caesar salad good but too much dressing. Portions were very generous. Think about splitting.

    Great ambience and service. Dessert was great, we tried the cannolis and the gelato. For entrees I got the lasagna, and it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. It as a very large portion size but it was average in my opinion. My wife said her entree was just ok as well, and I believe she ordered the mafaldine. We got calamari and mozzarella cheese sticks as appetizers. The calamari breading was great. The mozzarella sticks were average. I think because of the cost we were hoping the entrees would’ve been better so we felt it want a great value, but again there were a lot of positives such as the service, ambience, and dessert.

    Love a booth at Sammie's. Warm atmosphere. Great drinks, apps and dinner. Always a good time, if a bit loud.

    Mozzarella sticks and red sauce were amazing! The lasagna is authentic and the best I’ve had in a long time. It’s a repeat visit for sure!

    Got to the reservation early and they still let us sit easily. Very romantic and clean. Dark red lighting and very pretty. Food was so wonderful and not too much where you walk away feeling gross. Service was fast and friendly. Will 100% be back!
