About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for groups
  • Lively
Rumi's Kitchen first opened more than a decade ago in Atlanta, the result of years of development by Chef / Owner Ali Mesghali. Showcasing the flavors of Iran -- fresh herbs, kabobs cooked over an open-fire grill -- quickly won loyal guests at the original location in Sandy Springs, GA and set us on pace to open our first restaurant outside of Georgia in 2020. Rumi was a 13th-century Persian poet whose words and life teach us how to find inner peace, happiness and love. We invite you to Rumi’s Kitchen where fresh, healthy food and attentive Persian hospitality await you.

We were in DC at a conference for the weekend, and Rumi was walkable from our hotel. What an awesome experience. Very authentic. Excellent food and service! The portions were large, and we wished we did not have to leave the uneaten food, but we were heading out of town. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and accommodated our gluten-free dietary needs. If we lived nearby, this would be a regular place to visit!

Usually koobideh is done well at Rumi’s but part of it was under cooked.

The food is exceptionally good and we all enjoyed our meals. The Chilean sea bass was a little undercooked though. The cocktails are tangy and good. The service was polite and efficient. The place is very busy and the noise level is loud but the atmosphere is fun and lively. I would not bring anyone with hearing issues. The food is the standout. The crowd is and eclectic mix.

I was so hyped up but was quite let down! The furnishings and decor looks very tired! The service was average and the food was also average! A little bland. I was expecting something close to home cooked Persian food. For the price you pay it’s not acceptable! I may give them another try someday but truthfully I would rather go to another Persian restaurant and there are many in DC/VA pay half the price and get comparable quality and taste! Come in Rumi can do better!!
