   The food, menu, service and view are all excellent, which makes this review even more frustrating to write. The issues with the River Crab would be so easy to fix if anybody cared to pay attention. On a Sunday afternoon during the holidays, we were celebrating my mother's 80th birthday. It has been her favorite restaurant for a long time. We have been patrons here for over 40 years, and knew the original owners. I went to school with their youngest son. We have had birthdays, wedding showers and many, many Easter brunches there. When I called to make the reservation I specifically requested the patio and told them about our special event. They took the request and said they could not guarantee it. Understandable. However, when we walked in, the restaurant was, and remained, empty they entire duration of our stay, and the patio was EMPTY. Yet we were told there were not enough tables to accommodate our party of 11 on the patio. They were ALL EMPTY and we could have easily been accommodated. It was insulting and a horrific lack of accommodation and service. This was an 80th birthday party. The manager was curt and dressed like she just rolled out of bed. I hate to pick on someone's personal appearance but you are the customer-facing manager for a very expensive restaurant. She sat at the bar for the majority of our meal, by the way. The music playing on a rainy holiday Sunday was loud horrible pop music, like they forgot to turn off the music they play after hours when they are doing side work. Again, the service, food, menu and drinks were exceptional but when you provide a horrible atmosphere and the manager is clearly not interested in or capable of managing an upscale restaurant, it ruins the entire experience, which is a shame, because this place deserves better, and the fix is very easy. Piano player, classical or jazz music, pleasant accommodating manager. Just a shame.

   Special Christmas menu stated entree came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. It was served with rice and broccoli… not what we wanted or ordered. Dinner was $59 including dessert which we did not want. There were no other menu choices other than this 3 course dinner. We barely started eating our salad when the entrees were brought out. We had to leave our salads uneaten or our food would have been cold. $59 for a salad we couldn’t eat because the waiter brought the food out too fast, 2 side dishes we didn’t order and a dessert we didn’t want. On top of that the table next to us had four kids (wearing pajamas) running all around the restaurant and around our table which was very distracting and annoying.

   We love River Crab. Great classic atmosphere along the river. The wine and cocktail selection was fantastic. The holiday prix fixe menu had a nice variety but the restaurant was not flexible in modifications for kids or picky eaters. Appetizers and first course selections were limited especially if had a seafood allergy and again a picky eater. The atmosphere and service however was perfect for our family holiday Christmas Eve dinner.
