The hostess was not at all welcoming and unfortunately that set a chilly tone for the evening. Three different people had to ask if we’d been helped before she came and then seated us brusquely. We will not be hurrying back there.

We had high hopes because the menu looked good. We went for an early dinner before a show at the 5th Avenue. They were about 25% full when we got there so we were hopeful that we would have plenty of time to enjoy our meal. We were seated and we sat...and sat...and watched a table next to us get seated and place their order. We finally flagged down the host as she was seating another table and asked if we could get our server. She appologized and took our drink orders. Another 10 minutes go by and our server finally shows up to take our order. Meanwhile the table that was seated after us receives their food (and it looks pretty good). Our drinks show up and one of them is wrong. We again flag down the host because our server is AWOL and they remake the drink. When our food finally arrives close to an hour after we arrived, it looks pretty good -- however on taking our first bites, it's clear it's been sitting under a warmer for a long time. My steak was cooked correctly in the center but had a think layer of charcoal from the brick oven that almost had to be scraped off like burnt toast. As the food was delivered, I asked for the check since we were running out of time to make the show. One of the servers (not ours) brought the check quickly and I set my card out. We are now rushing thru our food and the server is nowhere to be seen. We finally see her and I chase her down to ask her to run my card (her one saving grace is that she proactively told me there is a 20% built in gratuity). We all left significant amounts of food on the table as we were leaving -- no offer for doggie bags, no asking "was everything OK?". Nothing. This was some of the worst service I've had and the food did not make up for it. I don't mind giving a 20% tip for average or better service and food. The food and service at Rider were nowhere near average -- very disapointing.

Great place for Christmas. The service was really great despite folks having to work on the holiday. The feast was superb. This was the first time my husband and I tried the restaurant. We'll go back to try their regular menu sometime.

I obtained a 2 hour window reservation for a show. The service was was excellent, but they couldn’t deliver on the time. Never received our meal before the show. I won’t be back.

The concern that we had was that with the salmon and the halibut there was too much salt.

Staff were extremely nice but overwhelmed. Oddly they were only seating in the bar, and so it was cramped due to the entrance. Food was good but the experience was not worth the price.

The food and drinks were great. The noise level wasn’t “intimate” but it was conversation-level. The wait staff was friendly and informative, but seemed a little thinly stretched. Finally, the check included a 20% service charge which looked like a “tip” for the staff (most restaurants now disclose when the establishment keeps the charge), but of course there was a separate Tip line. The server didn’t mention whether a tip was included or not, so I found the whole thing a little “sneaky” (even if unintentional).
