Nestled on the waterfront in Irvington, New York, Red Hat on the River is an American modern bistro serving satisfied diners since 2003. There's hardly a seat in the house that does not offer a spectacular view of the Hudson river. Banquettes and a pewter bar accent the space while the walls of this 100-year old renovated factory building are adorned with WPA-era art evoking a feeling of a turn of the century Parisian bistro. Evolving from a humble bistro on main street to a bustling restaurant on the river with a rooftop bar, Red Hat's commitment to providing the very best experience for their guests has always remained the same. Try the classic menu standards of steak frites, moules frites, country terrine, and the Red Hat burger. Seasonal salads, sandwiches, and seafood entrees round out the menu. I was here for Valentine’s dinner, my reservation was for 6:45 got there 6:40 and was sealed immediately. The waitress was very attentive. The food quality was very good, from appetizers to dessert. It was a little pricey but didn’t mind because service, food quality and ambiance were all good.

Always a lovely and delicious time at Red Hat. The most delicious, thoughtful food, in a beautiful setting with such a sweet and hospitable team. It’s our forever favorite that seems to be better than ever.

Lovely space with an amazing river view. Service was attentive. Food was disappointing. Every dish was too plainly presented and excessively salty. Really, really salty. From shrimp appetizer (drowning in butter and salt) to steak entree (drowning in too-salty peppercorn sauce), to Greek-diner caliber desserts, this place is no longer the food destination it once was. And the blackboard specials (Chicken parm Thurdays, etc.) only reinforce the perception that this place has fallen from its lofty heights. Yet, a wonderful room , ambience, and view--along with strong service-- make it a solid choice as long as you like your food plainly prepared and presented and very, very salty.

Legitimately loved this whole experience. We did the crostini / scallops / ribeye / and something chocolate. All were homeruns!

Crystal was wonderful! She was attentive but not overly attentive. And we never had to ask for water refill! Entire staff were very pleasant and welcoming as soon as we walked through the door!
