Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: If Quixote feels like a house of worship, it’s no accident. The cavernous restaurant was built from a deconstructed Mexican church, as hinted at by its Santa Maria candles and pulpit-turned-bar. Chef José Cepeda serves riffs on his family favorites spotlighting heirloom grains, masa, and his specialty, moles.

When we arrived we drove around and there is absolutely NO street parking, so don’t bet on that. We ended up getting valet. We waited in line in valet for 20 minutes before someone came to speak with us, and there were only 2 cars in front of us. So the valet could have been better, but at only $15 it’s not a bad price. When we got inside it was very, very busy. Beautiful and picture areas all over. It took us awhile to find the restaurant from inside the hotel there’s one sign but once you go down the hall you see 3 doors and the sign for the restaurant was hard to read we didn’t even register it was the restaurant. We ended up asking for directions and found the restaurant. (There is a separate entrance for the restaurant from the outside I recommend using instead of going in through the hotel). Once we got checked in we got our table pretty fast, service was very fast and our server explained the menu to us. We ordered the guacamole and queso, DELICIOUS. We also ordered the chicken tacos, it came with two small tacos my husband and I each had one, and they were also delicious. Our entree was the Tasajo, at $95 a plate my husband and I split it and we ate it all but we’re completely full after the food we got earlier. It was one of the best things I have eaten in years. Seriously. Not only did the food come out insanely fast, but it was completely worth the high price. There was a grilled avocado with salsa in the middle, never had that before but I am drooling thinking about it. I’m usually a try a restaurant once and try another person, there’s so many in San Diego and not enough time to try them all. But we will definitely be frequent fliers here. The restaurants ambiance was like something out of booktok. Romantic and moody! When we were done with our food we went back into the hotel to take photos but the one area I wanted to go to was blocked off so I assume it’s only open some times for photos? We waited about 10-15 minutes for valet to get our car.

Food is good. But our table waiter is not friendly to say the least. He basically shown that he was annoyed at us because this was our first time there and we didn't order a main course. We had planed to have cocktails and appetizers as we already had other dinner booked. Hence we were there at 4 pm. We ordered cocktails at the bar while we were waiting for our table. I had a reservation for 4:30pm. The main waitior told use to close out before heading over to our table. When we got to our table with our cocktails, our table waiter looked unhappy. Very weird vibes from him. He didn't introduce how their menu worked to us. So we are basically in the dark. We ended of ordering a couple of appetizers since it was our first time. Later on I found that he did a detailed intro on their menu to another table next to us. And we just felt very unwelcome by him. He also made a snide comment when we ordered the shrimp taco (come as 2 pieces we later found out) that it is best for 4 people so that we can cut it to half and everyone can have a half of taco. Very strange experience. Food actually tasted very good but feel extremely unwelcome there by this waiter. He purposely ignore our table after the ordering. I think he is judgemental toward customer that didn't order enough food from him or something like that. I am not sure if we will ever go back to this restaurant again. Such a shame because the food and cocktail are actually pretty good. Also the price are pretty fair. We still tipped 20% as the other waiter or bar tenders are very nice. BUT with a table waiter like that, you just can't really enjoy the dining experience. Not sure why I am even writing this long feedback. Not sure if the business even cares. But I guess if any new customer wanting to try this place. Watch out the mean waiter! 😱

Management... you need to train your staff on how to treat your customers! By far one of the worst experiences we have ever had at an establishment. Except for one bartender and the valet your staff has no situational awareness and is rude. 20 minutes in line to get the valet to take our car. At least he was nice and apologized. Only 2 valets during the holidays? 30 minutes standing near the reservation desk at Quixote to be seated 25 minutes past our reservation time. We almost left but the due to the $20- per person charge to secure our reservation we stayed. It was unreal how the staff could have cared less that we waited. I had to go up 3 times to check if we would be seated soon and the entire time the table we sat at finally was cleaned and empty most of the wait. 10 minutes later the waitress Yari did not greet us or say one word just poured us water and walked away. We had no idea she was the one that would be taking our order until she came to the table and said "do you know what you want"? that was it! The food was decent until the raw steak we ordered medium-rare for $95- showed up, we sent it back as we were done and couldn't wait to get out of there. One small "sorry' as she put the check on our table and walked away. Not one person in your establishment said "thank. you". The hotel was decorated beautifully however at 5pm it was so crowded you could not really see the decorations so everyone had the same idea as we did understandably. Another 25 minutes to get our car and we were out of there! Never again!

Service was awful. No attention. I saw 4-5 of them standing together I the service area. We waited for our server to come back. At this price point there is no excuse for poor service.

VERY LOUD no matter where you sit. If you enjoy talking over a nice meal this isn't the place for it. They play music loud like it's a club not a fine restaurant and so customers must talk even louder over the music volume during dining. This restaurant would be fantastic if they just dial down the music volume and let the humans enjoy each other. If you're 21-30 and like everything loud then you'll love Quixote. The drinks and food (mostly small Tapas plates and the three Entreee to choice from) are all excellent. Service was very good. Prices $50-$100pp with one drink.
