Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: If Quixote feels like a house of worship, it’s no accident. The cavernous restaurant was built from a deconstructed Mexican church, as hinted at by its Santa Maria candles and pulpit-turned-bar. Chef José Cepeda serves riffs on his family favorites spotlighting heirloom grains, masa, and his specialty, moles.

Not the best experience for being my first time! I was seated at a table near the entrance. People were literally standing next to our table while we were eating dinner. If too many reservations show up at once, there’s no waiting area for them. This forces people to stand near tables where guests are having dinner. The service was not that great, our food arrived before our first drink!

We were early for our reservation and had a drink at the bar. The bartender was fantastic describing mescal flights and making a bourbon cocktail based on a flavor profile. It took a while to get seated. The host spent a lot of time at each table describing food and how to order and offering to assist. It was great when it was your turn but not when others continued to wait. The food was delicious but our group of six thought it was kind of pricey for small sharing plates. But again delicious and high quality ingredients so you get what you pay for. The lighting is VERY dim and we never quite adjusted. And it was pretty noisy…our diners with hearing aids had difficulty. We were all glad we had experienced it but probably wouldn’t go back. We would go to the Lafayette Hotel again to enjoy their other venues all of which look extremely inviting.

Interesting venue. Excellent Mexican food. Very busy, so get reservations. It’s in the Lafayette Hotel with a great bar scene and a separate bar and music venue.

Waited an hour for a reservation and then they tried to sit us at a table they moved by the door. I said we don’t want to sit there and the host just said sorry so we walked out. Terrible service and couldn’t believe the manager never came and said anything. Will not be trying to go back and pay for over priced small dishes

Noise level (ambient music) was very loud and distracting. Table was tiny, a bistro sized table barely fit three small entrees; we didn't order a large meal. It was so dark we couldn't read the menus without a flashlight (we used out phones possibly distracting neighboring patrons) Service was WONDERFUL! Tommy our server was so informative and gave us so much information about the chef and menu!!
