   This was our second visit and experience was very similar the the first visit. On the positive side, the food was very good - well cooked risotto with great flavour. We had our granddaughter with us on this occasion and the bambini menu was good with a good size child’s portion. Again it tasted very good with good pasta and sauce. The atmosphere was good and the venue is impressive. The down side is the service. Front of house was really poor - courteous enough but insincere and do not follow through on the basics. After being taken to our table waiting ages for someone to take an order for drinks and food leaving us to ask to be served !! We then waited an age for our drinks to arrive by which time we had pretty much finished the snacks we had ordered. Piccolino’s really need to sort out some fundamental service issues and get someone in who can organise table servers and front desk staff especially when adding a 12.5% service charge to the bill. In summary, good food but service does not do justice to the quality of the food. Debatable whether we will try a third visit!

   Our only real issue was that my plates were cold so my food went cold rather quickly. There was nothing wrong with the food or presentation but I would expect the food to be hot and remain hot whilst eating. I always feel the plates in restaurants and am disappointed when plates are not hot. In my experience hot plates are a measure of the quality of the restaurant and management.

   Our first time in Piccolino Henley On Thames, having enjoyed a couple of nice meals at the sister restaurant in Marlow. We don't know what the issue was but we're guessing they were short-staffed in the kitchen. The table was booked for 19:45; we arrived at 19:30 but were only seated around 20:30. After being ignored after our initial drinks order, we finally flagged down a waiter to take our food order well after 21:00. Originally we only ordered main meals - the châteaubriand all four of us wanted was sold out by this point! We ordered 1 sharing fiorentina and 2 filet steaks which eventually arrived after 22:00!!! We were recommended to order nibbles as the food would be minimum 20mins so we ended up ordering focaccia and olives (which were lovely), but necessary by this point. The filets were ordered medium and medium-rare - the medium was closer to blue and was actually cold in the middle. They did offer to re-do this but given the time we declined. This steak was taken off the bill. The fries were massively under cooked which was disappointing given the fries at Marlow are sensational. The staff did their best and we were comped a round of cocktails. All staff we interacted with were friendly and professional, with front of house and sommelier taking good care of us, but they were really let down by the food side. NB additional stemware smelt of stale dishwasher so we couldn't appreciate the nose on the second bottle. We were there to treat friends; the ambience was fabulous as was our company so we still enjoyed the evening. That said, we will stick to Marlow from herein if we fancy another Piccolino experience.

   There’s a lot to like but it’s the little things that let the food down. Ordered the truffle special Burrata as a starter. It’s not cheap but it has fresh truffle, so that’s ok. But it came to the table clearly straight from a very cold fridge, which kills the flavour and texture. So, 2 expensive ingredients that are fantastic to eat, ruined because they’ve been refeidgerated until the last minute rather than brought to the correct temperature. If you want to charge those prices and serve those ingredients, please treat them properly and let them shine.

    Lovely round table for 6 of us. Excellent food and staff excelled themselves. Very friendly, fun and helpful. Our friends, who hadn't been to a Piccolino before were very impressed.
