Paya is an exuberant, island-inspired restaurant and bar located on Miami’s South Beach founded by Mohamed “Mo” Alkassar and Chef Niven Patel, the duo behind FEAL Hospitality. It is a platform for Chef Niven Patel to pay homage to the insular cuisines of the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and Spain’s islands, where he and Mo have either worked or visited extensively. Chef Niven’s dishes incorporate ingredients he grows at Rancho Patel, complemented by vibrant wines and tropical, farm to glass cocktails.

The restaurant features 56 dining room seats, 25 bar seats, and 8 raw bar seats, with a gorgeous display of fresh seafood. Expect to jam to some Manu Chao style music while basking in the vibrant island vibes and flavors. South Beach has been home to Mo since he moved to Miami in 2016, and Paya is his thank-you to the community that supported him through his journey.

The food was excellent. I think they may have been understaffed. The food came out on time, but the bar service was very slow. I would definitely come back the next time we are in Miami. They haven’t been open long, hopefully they will get the service issues fixed.

We tried the tasting menu. Everyone should try the tasting menu. The food was excellent, with great portions and a good price. I am so happy to have found this restaurant since we live at the Beach. We'll definitely be back and will bring friends (and will spread the word about how good it is).

We were disappointed that happy hour is only at the bar which was full. I asked about hh at the raw bar which was empty and was told no. The green papaya salad and crab cakes were good. The mussels were out of the shell and were just ok. The peri peri chicken lacked flavor and was dry. Sadly, we probably won’t return.

The food is great. The service is friendly but unpolished, with a total lack of attention to details like water and used glasses, or to refreshing drinks or food. The noise level was not bad for Miami, but the music is far too loud to allow a whole table to talk without shouting. The dessert menu is minimal.

A delicious menu! We sat outside and it was lovely. Music could have been a little lower but it was turned down when we requested it.

This was my second time at Paya and will not be my last. The food and service are great! Their new patio is beautiful! Can’t wait to be back for HH or just dinner and enjoy the “Miami winter” outdoors at Paya.
