   We’ve been coming for years, but last time the restaurant was overcrowded and overbooked. We waited in a tiny space by the front door for a half hour after our reservation and eventually sat in a jammed in table on top of other diners. The food’s still good but the experience was awful. At least they didn’t ask us to sit in the cold plastic booth on the sidewalk where other poor souls were banished.

   It was very crowded and the staff seemed overwhelmed at times. They were moving tables through crowded areas where there was no space. They were moving service was mediocre. The food was good. I would not go back.

   Made a reservation for four (4) at 5PM. Multiple groups without reservations - ranging in size from 2 to 6 guests - were seated before us. Despite our reservation at 5PM, and multiple visibly open tables both inside and outside, we were not seated until 5:30. During our meal, you could audibly hear the manager of the restaurant screaming at his staff “Do NOT hand out anymore dessert menus! We need to get these people OUT of here!” The food was good, nothing notable, but definitely will not be back.

   It was my husband’s birthday and my friend and l took him out to dine and celebrate. We were on our way and I received a text that our table was ready and it was! They took us to our table immediately. The maitre d was very pleasant, the ambiance was delightful, the waitress was courteous, the food was delicious, my salmon was A+. I recommend this restaurant, not many like this in the upper west side for Italian cuisine.

   This place has won us over for all the evenings we attend lectures at the nearby NY Historical! Their food is so well prepared, always delicious, and their service is excellent. The seasoning is perfect too. We look forward to eating there, and they never disappoint.

    While we enjoyed the neighborhood restaurant feel and the service was excellent, the food was mediocre at best. The sauteed calamari wasn't as tasty as we've had at other restaurants, and the too-plentiful golden raisins in the dish would be better suited to something other than calamari. The eggplant appetizer was pretty good, but the sauce on the pizza tasted like it came out of a can. We picked the restaurant because of the location and it was convenient for us, but there are better restaurants in the area, so we won't be returning.

While I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the ambiance and service at Pappardella, i am devastated and sorry that the food was disappointing. the calamari is a very popular dish. i will discuss with the chef to observe if the proportions are correct. I can assure that our tomato sauce is home made every day since we opened in 1983. If you are in our neighborhood, I would love for you to take another chance on Pappardella.
