   We arrived towards the later end of service, and it took a while to be seared, and then even longer to place our order. Once placed the food arrived promptly and was very tasty, but around us the restaurant started to clear out and the servers then began with clear down around us; banging crates of bottles, moving furniture and generally not creating the kind of environment where you can eat in peace. We felt very rushed, despite it being much earlier than their advertised closing time, and there still being other diners there too. The staff members seemed to be dressed in black, however ours, not sure if he was the manager or if someone called in sick and so he had to come in last minute, but he was dressed like he’d just been to the gym - sweat pants and a t-shirt; not exactly professional food service attire. If you don’t care for service standards, this place does quick simple and hearty pie and mash, but will make you feel like an inconvenience for it.

   Really glad I made a pre-theatre reservation, as they were very busy on a Monday night. Food was excellent (I ordered the classic mash, traditional mince beef pie, and traditional gravy), and a Fuller’s London Pride was a great accompaniment. I wish I had had room to try their sticky toffee pudding…the table next to me had one and it looked fantastic. As a solo diner, I appreciated not being rushed out so my table could be turned. I would definitely come back here again.

   Great food and service. It gets busy so make sure you book. Authentic surroundings but is a little cramped. Tried both Covent Garden and Carnaby St, they were equally good but Carnaby St has the edge for me. If you want to try pie and Mash then this is a good place to Starr.

   The mains were definitely scrumptions and the 4 of us loved them. 3 of us were really disappointed with the apple and blackberries pies: the pastry was not sugary at all so not to our taste at all. Our advice: enjoy a main course and pick a crumble, that's the key for an excellent dinner! Quite noisy place but very friendly staff.

   Serving staff were great, but only two were on shift so they were having to run around a lot. Wasn’t the smoothest experience as a result, but that’s a management problem not on the staff. Food itself was great and good value, a good pre-theatre spot

   We’d booked a booth, but was given another table on arrival, this was soon rectified by another server, who apologised and moved us to a booth , our server didn’t get her name , she was a black girl was extremely helpful and pleasant, the other server didn’t seem as bothered and was preaning herself in the mirror or talking to her friend, the food was delicious and was enough to keep us going all day , the booth had plenty of room although there was only two of us , I would recommend eating here

   I found this place about a year ago and whenever I am in London I always visit, the food and service are always really good and the staff are so friendly.
